Torrance, CA – September 2, 2026 – Honda (NYSE:HMC) is recalling nearly 1.1 million cars whose tire repair kits may cause injuries when used.
The following models are affected:
- 2023 – 2026 Honda Accord Hybrid
- 2025 – 2026 Honda CR-V Fuel Cell EV
- 2023 – 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid
The recall comes on the heels of several injuries.
Recall summary
A tire repair kit consists of a bottle of sealant and an air compressor to patch up and inflate a punctured tire. In the affected vehicles, “excessive pressure may accumulate” inside the bottle, causing the cap to detach and fly off.
Recall risks
A bottle cap that flies away like a projectile may hit the user or nearby people and injure them.
In fact, the carmaker is aware of eight such cases, although, luckily, none resulted in fatalities.
Other Honda recalls
In September 2025, more than 17,000 Acura SUVs were recalled because their power steering would fail, as reported.
Separately, the U.S. government is currently investigating Honda following numerous complaints that its vehicles would fail to restart after the Start-Stop system shut them off.
The repair
The dealers will replace the sealant bottle or the tire repair kit nozzle free of charge.
The remedy is set to be available in the fall of 2026, at which point owners will get a letter inviting them to take the car to the nearest dealership.
