Mahwah, NJ – January 27, 2025 – Volvo (OTCMKTS:VLVLY) is recalling 413,151 cars and SUVs whose rearview cameras may fail to show an image. The defect reduces visibility while reversing, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

- 2023 – 2025 Volvo XC90
These vehicles were already recalled over the same issue in May 2025, but repairs proved to be insufficient.
Recall summary
The rearview camera in the affected vehicles may fail to show an image when the transmission is shifted in reverse. According to the manufacturer, this issue occurs due to a software error.
Recall risks
An absence of a rearview image limits the driver’s visibility while backing up, which augments the chances of crashing into surrounding objects or pedestrians.
Warning signs
The driver might see a ”Camera is temporarily not available” message on the display if the rearview camera malfunctions. Other functions, including park sensors, rear automatic braking and cross traffic alerts should remain operational.
Previous rearview camera recall
Volvo already recalled these vehicles in May 2025, when the rearview camera’s software was updated. This repair, however, apparently did not solve the issue for unknown reasons.
Other Volvo recalls
In July 2025, more than 11,000 Volvo EVs and hybrids were recalled over the loss of brake function caused by a software glitch.
In April 2025, Volvo recalled approximately 7,000 hybrid cars and SUVs because their high-voltage batteries could have overheated and caught fire.
The repair
The dealers will update the rearview camera’s software free of charge.
Notifications to the owners will be mailed by February 16, 2026.
