Tesla recalls EVs with malfunctioning rearview cameras

Austin, TX – June 10, 2026 – Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 218,868 electric cars and SUVs whose rearview cameras may fail to show an image. This defect reduces visibility while backing up, upping the chances of a crash and injury or property damage.

The following vehicles are affected:

  • 2017 Tesla Model 3
  • 2021 – 2023 Tesla Model 3
  • 2021 – 2023 Tesla Model S
  • 2021 – 2023 Tesla Model X
  • 2020 – 2023 Tesla Model Y

Recall summary

The rearview camera in the affected EVs may take too long to show an image when shifted into reverse. This non-functioning period lasts 11 seconds and occurs immediately after the vehicle is started.

Recall risks

The absence of a rearview image while backing up reduces visibility, increasing the odds of the driver hitting other cars or pedestrians.

The Cybertrucks were also recalled in April 2025 over fly-away trims, as reported.

The repair

The carmaker has deployed an over-the-air update (OTA) to fix the issue.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed by July 3, 2026.
