Hyundai recalls vehicles over insufficient passenger protection

Fountain Valley, CA – April 21, 2026 – Hyundai (OTCMKTS:HYMTF), which owns the Genesis brand, is recalling 294,128 cars and SUVs whose seat belts may detach in a crash. This defect increases the risk of an injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2023 – 2026 Genesis G90
  • 2023 – 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6
  • 2024 – 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • 2024 – 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid

 Recall summary

A seat belt is attached to the seat’s base at one end and to the vehicle’s chassis at the other. If the seat belts in the affected cars are removed for any reason, their anchoring points may get damaged during re-fitting, which can cause them to detach in a crash.

Recall risks

A seat belt with a loose anchoring point might not provide sufficient protection in a crash, upping the risk of injury.

Other Hyundai recalls

In March 2026, Hyundai recalled more than 61,000 Palisade SUVs whose seats could have trapped occupants and caused injuries or death.

In February 2026, nearly 85,000 Genesis vehicles were recalled because their dashboards could have gone blank while driving.

The repair

The dealers will replace the seat belt anchors if they are damaged. Otherwise, a reinforcement remedy will be installed. The repairs will be free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed by June 5, 2026.
