Stellantis recalls Jeep Cherokees over faulty airbags

Auburn Hills, MI – June 26, 2026 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns the Jeep brand, is recalling 419,035 SUVs whose side airbags may not deploy fast enough in a crash. This defect reduces occupant protection, upping the risk of injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2022 – 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 2023 – 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

Recall summary

An airbag inflates in a fraction of a second during a crash to protect the occupant. In the affected SUVs, deployment of the side airbag may be delayed due to a malfunctioning pressure sensor.

Recall risks

An airbag that deploys too slowly may fail to protect the occupant.

Warning signs

A faulty pressure sensor may trigger an airbag warning light on the dashboard, accompanied by an audible chime every time the vehicle is turned on.
