Auburn Mills, MI – March 19, 2026 – Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) is recalling 48,165 2025-2026 Volkswagen Jetta cars that may catch fire. This defect ups the risk of a crash and injury, or property damage.
Recall summary
Due to “human error,” the transmission ground wire was not connected correctly during the manufacturing process. The resulting “open electrical circuit” increases the current draw and may lead to a fire.
Recall risks
The driver or passengers could suffer serious injuries or lose their lives due to a fire. Additionally, the flames could spread to surrounding objects, causing significant property damage.

Background of the recall
The recall comes on the heels of six customer complaints. In three cases, the engine compartments caught fire. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Other Volkswagen recalls
In January 2026, Volkswagen recalled roughly 28,000 Audi cars with seat belts that could have failed to secure a child, as reported.
In May 2025, 89,000 Audi were recalled due to the risk of catching fire due to an oil leak, also as reported.
The repair
The dealers will inspect and repair the wire free of charge.
Owners will be notified between March 13, 2026 and May 8, 2026.
