Ford expands F-150 recall that may lose power or roll away

Dearborn, MI – September 2, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 103,174 2023-2025 Ford F-150 pickup trucks that may lose motive power or roll away when parked, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

This is an expansion of a previous recall from December 2023.

Recall summary

Rear axle transfers the power from the engine to the rear wheels and holds them in place.

In the affected trucks, the bolts that connect the axle internal moving parts may break. This can result in a loss of motive power or allow the vehicle to roll away when parked with the parking brake not engaged.

Recall risks

A damaged rear axle may leave the vehicle stranded on the road, where it can get hit by oncoming traffic, or cause it to roll away when parked. Both situations can lead to an injury.

Warning signs

The drivers may notice clicking or rattling sounds coming from the back of the trucks.

Previous recall

Ford became aware of this problem with defective axles on their F-150 pickups in June 2022, which consequently led to a recall in December 2023.

However, later analysis revealed that trucks not affected by the first recall may suffer from the same problem.

The repair

The dealers will replace both the left and right rear axle assemblies with improved ones. This repair wil be free of charge.
