Ford expands Bronco, Ranger recall for cars with loose seats

Dearborn, MI – May 28, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 179,698 pickups and SUVs whose front seats may become loose.  This defect increases the risk of injury in a crash.

The following models are affected:

  • 2024 – 2026 Ford Bronco
  • 2024 – 2026 Ford Ranger

This is an expansion of a similar recall from October 2025.

Recall summary

Front seats have a mechanism underneath them that allows height adjustment. In the affected vehicles, one or more bolts that hold this mechanism together may become loose and fall out, which can dislodge the seat from its position.

Recall risks

A loose or dislodged seat may not protect the occupant adequately in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Warning signs

The passengers may hear squeaking or rattling noises or notice that the seat feels loose.

The background of the recall

Ford already recalled certain older Bronco models in October last year over the same issue. Later analysis, however, revealed that more vehicles are affected by this problem than originally suspected.

The carmaker is not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by this defect.

Other Ford recalls

In April 2026, more than 420,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles were recalled because their windshield wipers could have stopped working.

In February 2026, Ford recalled approximately 45,000 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs whose headlights could have malfunctioned due to a software glitch, as reported.

The repair

The dealers will replace the seat mechanism bolts free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed between July 13, 2026 and July 17, 2026.

Ford recalls 1.4 million F-150s over faulty transmissions

Dearborn, MI – May 23, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling close to 1.4 million 2015-2017 Ford F-150 pickup trucks whose transmissions can shift on their own, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The defect increases the risk of a crash and injury.

The recall comes on the heels of an ongoing U.S. government investigation and only affects trucks with 6-speed automatic transmission.

 Recall summary

The automatic transmission in the affected trucks can unintentionally shift from sixth to second gear while driving. This happens due to degraded electrical connections inside the transmission control module.

The shift can cause the rear wheels of the car to lock up, resulting in the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Recall risks

A sudden loss of control can result in an accident and injuries to the occupants of the car and other motorists.

Warning signs

A malfunction indicator light (MIL) and a wrench symbol may illuminate on the dashboard.

The background of the recall

The recall is the result of an ongoing investigation by the U.S. government auto safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which was opened in March 2025 following 138 complaints alleging unwanted downshifts that would happen “without warning or driver input.”

Leading up to the recall, the manufacturer had been notified of two accidents and an injury.

Other Ford recalls

In April 2026, Ford recalled more than 420,000 trucks and SUVs whose windshield wipers could have stopped working

In February 2026, nearly 120,000 Ford and Lincoln cars were recalled over a fire risk caused by a faulty engine block heater

The repair

The dealers will update the transmission’s software. If needed, they will also repair the electrical components inside the transmission control module. This repair will be free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed between July 13, 2026 and July 17, 2026.

Ford recalls trucks and SUVs over inoperable wipers

Dearborn, MI – April 14, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F), which also owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 422,613 trucks and SUVs whose wipers may stop working. The defect reduces visibility, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2021 – 2023 Ford Expedition
  • 2022 – 2023 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2022 – 2023 Ford F-350 SD

  • 2022 – 2023 Ford F-550 SD
  • 2022 – 2023 Ford F-600 SD
  • 2021 – 2023 Lincoln Navigator

The recall comes on the back of thousands of warranty claims.

 Recall summary

A car’s wiper blade is attached to the wiper arm that swipes it across the windshield when engaged.  In the affected vehicles, the arms were not seated correctly, which could prevent the wipers from moving as intended.

Recall risks

Inoperable windshield wipers reduce visibility, especially in poor weather, upping the chances of a crash.

Warning signs

The driver may notice the wipers move erratically when engaged.

Background of the recall

The recall comes on the heels of “1,538 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and three customer service reports.” No injuries or accidents have been reported.

Other Ford recalls

In February 2026, Ford recalled approximately 45,000 electric SUVs whose headlights could have stopped working, as reported.

In January 2026, more than 270,000 Ford hybrid and EVs were recalled over a rollaway risk, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers are expected to inspect and replace the wiper arms free of charge. However, the remedy is not currently available as the “inspection process is being evaluated.”

Letters “notifying owners of the safety risk” were slated to be mailed between April 13, 2026 and April 17, 2026. Another round will go out once the remedy is available.

Dearborn, MI – February 13, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 45,047 2025-2026 Ford Mustang Mach E electric SUVs whose lights may stop working. This defect reduces visibility, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

Recall summary

The lights’ control module in the affected vehicles may not engage upon startup due to a software glitch. As a result, the vehicles’ high beam, low beam, daytime running lamp and turn signals may not illuminate when needed.

Recall risks

Inoperable headlights reduce the driver’s visibility and make the vehicle more difficult to notice for other motorists.

Warning signs

The driver may see an “advanced front lighting feature temporarily unavailable” warning on the dashboard and notice that the turn signal indicators are flashing faster than usual.

Other Ford recalls

In December 2025, Ford recalled nearly 110,000 SUVs whose trims could have detached while driving.

In November 2025, approximately 7,500 Ford Econoline trucks and vans were recalled because their passengers could have been burned by the hot engine cover

The repair

Ford issues third recall for car fires

Dearborn, MI – February 3, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F), which owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 116,672 cars and SUVs that may catch fire while parked. This defect increases the risk of injury or property damage.

This is the third recall issued by Ford over the same issue. The following models are affected by the latest round:

  • 2013 – 2019 Ford Escape
  • 2013 – 2018 Ford Focus
  • 2015 – 2016 Lincoln MKC

Recall summary

An engine block heater keeps the engine coolant warm while the vehicle is parked in cold weather. This makes it easier to start the engine and reduces emissions.

In the affected vehicles, the block heater may crack and allow coolant to leak into the wiring connector, which may cause it to short-circuit and catch fire.

Recall risks

If the vehicle catches fire, the flames may spread to surrounding objects, causing property damage and increasing the risk of injury.

Warning signs

The drivers may notice a puddle of coolant under the vehicle, a “loss of cabin heat” or engine overheating. In addition, an electrical short may generate smoke and a burning odor.

Safety tips

The owners are advised to avoid using the engine block heater until the repair is performed.

You can find out more about what to do if the vehicle catches fire in this article

Background of the recall

Ford has already recalled multiple models over the same issue, once in June 2025, when approximately 6,800 vehicles were affected, and then again in October 2025, as reported.

The latest recall comes on the back of 12 fires. No injuries or accidents have been recorded.

Other Ford recalls

US government investigates Ford over stalled cars

Washington, D.C. – January 18, 2026 – The U.S. government auto safety regulator is investigating Ford (NYSE:F) over allegations that some of their vehicles may stall. The defect would increase the risk of a crash and injury, especially in dense traffic.

If this Ford engine issue leads to a recall, it could affect an estimated 10,473 vehicles, including:

  • 2014 – 2017 Ford Fiesta
  • 2015 – 2018 Ford Focus

All vehicles are equipped with a 1.0-liter Ecoboost engine and have manual transmission.

Recall summary

The regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), opened an investigation on December 18, 2025, following 44 complaints of stalled Ford vehicles.

According to the claims, the engines would seize due to metal shavings in the oil pump caused by a defective timing belt. The timing belt connects the engine’s internal components – the crankshaft and camshafts – and synchronises their rotation. In the affected vehicles it may disintegrate for unknown reasons.

Risks

A stalled car may get hit by other vehicles, especially if this occurs in fast-moving traffic, upping the risk of injury.

Warning signs

Some drivers noticed that a “low engine oil” warning popped up before the engine shut down.

Dangerous incidents

One driver stated that their car “suddenly” lost power while traveling at 65 miles per hour (mph) and had to have its engine replaced after it could not be repaired.

Another driver described a terrifying moment when the engine “began to sound like a tank” and would not restart.

Previous Ford recalls

In December 2025, nearly 110,000 Ford Escape SUVs were recalled because their trims could have flown away while driving

In October 2025, Ford recalled close to 60,000 vehicles over the risk of fire caused by a leaking engine block heater

Ford recalls Maverick, Mustang cars that may roll away

Dearborn, MI – January 2, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 272,645 hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) that may roll away while parked. This defect ups the chances of a crash and injury or property damage.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 – 2026 Ford Maverick
  • 2024 – 2026 Ford Mustang Mach E
  • 2022 – 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning BEV

Recall summary

When the driver shifts into Park, a brake mechanism inside the transmission locks it up to prevent movement. In the affected vehicles, the Park gear mechanism may jam, preventing the parking brake from engaging.

Recall risks

With the parking gear not engaged, the vehicle may roll away and crash into surrounding pedestrians or objects.

Warning signs

Should the vehicle fail to shift into Park, the driver may notice the absence of the “P” symbol on the dashboard, accompanied by a wrench icon.

Safety tips

The electronic parking brake (EPB) should engage automatically when you park. Do not disengage it before leaving the vehicle.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 Ford Escape
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford Escape

Recall summary

The following models are affected:

  • 2021 Ford E-350
  • 2021 Ford E-450

These vehicles were already recalled over the same issue in January 2020, but were not fixed.

Recall summary

The engine in Econoline vans and trucks is partially located between the front seats and is insulated to prevent burns. Despite that, the engine cover of the affected vehicles may become too hot due to faulty heat management software.

Recall risks

The driver or passengers may burn themselves on the hot engine cover.

Warning signs

The occupants may notice that the engine cover near their feet is gradually becoming hotter.

Previous Ford engine cover recall

Ford already addressed this problem on these vans and trucks in January 2020 by installing an improved engine cover with better thermal insulation and updating the corresponding software. In some vehicles, however, the software update was not performed for unknown reasons.

  • 2021 – 2022 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-150
  • 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

The wind deflector is a plastic trim that extends upwards to reduce wind noise when the moon roof is open. In the affected vehicles, the deflector was not fitted correctly and could detach while driving.

Recall risks

A detached moonroof wind deflector could fall on the road, where it would create a road hazard for other motorists.

Warning signs

The drivers could hear rattling sounds and increased wind noise when the moonroof is open or notice the wind deflector is not seated correctly.

Background of the recall
