Dearborn, MI – June 10, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 492,145 2016–2017 Ford Explorer SUVs because their door trims may detach while driving. This would create a road hazard for other motorists, upping the risk of a crash and injury.
Recall summary
The decorative trim fitted to driver and passenger door pillars of the affected cars may detach while driving and fall onto the road.
Recall risks
A detached trim might create a road hazard and other motorists could crash while trying to swerve around it.
Warning signs
The driver could notice the door trim is not sitting correctly or hear rattling or wind noise while driving.
Other Ford recalls
In May 2025, Ford recalled 9,181 F-150 pickup trucks because their steering mechanism could fall apart, augmenting the risk of a crash.
In the same month, over 273,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs were recalled due to a brake fluid leak that could increase stopping distances.
The repair
Ford is currently developing a solution and will notify drivers as soon as it’s available. The repair will be done free of charge.
The owners should be notified between June 9, 2025, and June 13, 2025.
