GM recall Chevies over faulty pedestrian warning system

Warren, MI – October 21, 2025 – General Motors (NYSE:GM), which owns the Chevrolet brand, is recalling 23,700 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EVs that may fail to warn pedestrians of their approach. This defect ups the chances of a crash and injury.

Recall summary

Chevrolet Equinox EVs have an audio device that generates an exterior sound when it is ready to drive and another sound when it starts moving to alert nearby pedestrians of their approach. The safety feature in the affected vehicles is faulty and will not allow pedestrians to differentiate between the two sounds.

Recall risks

The pedestrians may not be aware of the electric vehicle moving silently in their immediate surroundings, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The repair

The carmaker is currently developing a free software update for the body control module (BCM), which is in charge of operating the warning system.

Letters to the owners with more information will be mailed by November 10, 2025.
