Volkswagen recalls Audi SUVs over fire risk

Auburn Hills, MI – May 23, 2025 – Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) – which owns the Audi brand – is recalling 89,417 SUVs that can catch fire. This defect ups the risk of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2022 – 2024 Audi Q5
  • 2022 – 2024 Audi Q5 Sportback

Recall summary

The engine cylinder is a critical component of the engine which is responsible for propelling the car forward by turning fuel into mechanical force. The cylinder head sits on top of the cylinder and prevents hot oil from leaking out.

In the affected SUVs, the bolts holding the cover in place may become loose, which can cause an oil leak.

Recall risks

If the leaking oil comes in contact with hot components inside the engine bay, such as the exhaust manifold, it may ignite, setting the vehicle on fire.

Warning signs

The driver may notice a burning smell and smoke coming from under the hood. The vehicle should be parked “immediately” if that occurs.
