Dearborn, MI – November 27, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 7,046 Econoline trucks and vans whose passengers may get burned by the hot engine cover, upping the chances of injury.
The following models are affected:
- 2021 Ford E-350
- 2021 Ford E-450
These vehicles were already recalled over the same issue in January 2020, but were not fixed.
Recall summary
The engine in Econoline vans and trucks is partially located between the front seats and is insulated to prevent burns. Despite that, the engine cover of the affected vehicles may become too hot due to faulty heat management software.
Recall risks
The driver or passengers may burn themselves on the hot engine cover.
Warning signs
The occupants may notice that the engine cover near their feet is gradually becoming hotter.
Previous Ford engine cover recall
Ford already addressed this problem on these vans and trucks in January 2020 by installing an improved engine cover with better thermal insulation and updating the corresponding software. In some vehicles, however, the software update was not performed for unknown reasons.
Other Ford recalls
In November 2025, more than 170,000 Ford and Lincoln trucks and SUVs were recalled because their wind deflectors may have flown away while driving.
In October 2025, Ford recalled almost 60,000 vehicles over a fire risk caused by a leaking engine block heater.
The repair
The dealers will update the engine’s heat management software, free of charge.
Notifications to the owners will be mailed between January 5, 2026 and January 9, 2026.
