Jacksonville, FL – October 9, 2024 – Mercedes-Benz (OTCMKTS:MBGYY) is recalling 27,190 luxury sedans that may stall or catch on fire. The defect ups the risk of injury to the car occupants and surrounding motorists.
The recall comes on the back of dozens of warranty claims and a fire. The following models are affected:
- 2021 – 2023 Mercedes-Benz S580
- 2021 – 2023 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580
Recall summary
Thanks to an engine management system – called Camtronic – the engines in the listed vehicles can sometimes deactivate some of its cylinders to save fuel. Due to Camtronic failure and a related software error, the remaining cylinders may get too much fuel, raising the temperature in and around the engine. This may result in the engine wiring melting, causing the car to stall or catch fire.
