Auburn Hills, MI – May 26, 2026 – Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY), which owns the Audi brand, is recalling 7,425 SUVs whose seatbelts may fail to provide adequate protection to occupants in a crash. The defect increases the risk of injury.
The following models are affected:
- 2025 Audi Q5
- 2025 Audi SQ5
- 2025 Audi SQ5 Sportback
- 2025 Audi Q5 Sportback
Recall summary
A seat belt pretensioner is a device that tightens the seat belt against the occupant’s body in a crash to hold it more firmly. In the affected SUVs, the front pretensioners may not generate sufficient tension when activated, which can loosen the seatbelt.
Recall risks
An insufficiently tightened seat belt may not hold the occupant sufficiently in a crash, upping the risk of injury.
Other Audi recalls
In January 2026, more than 27,000 Audi cars and SUVs were recalled because their seatbelts could have failed to secure a child seat.
In May 2025, Audi recalled nearly 90,000 SUVs over an oil leak that could have caused a vehicle fire.
The repair
The dealers will replace the front seatbelt pretensioners with improved ones free of charge.
Notifications to the owners will be mailed by June 23, 2026.
