Ford recalls SD pickups over loss of steering

Dearborn, MI – October 7, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 115,539 pickup trucks whose steering mechanisms may fall apart. This defect makes the vehicle difficult to control, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following trucks are affected:

  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

The steering column connects the wheel to the rest of the steering mechanism and transmits driver input, allowing the car to be propelled forward. In the affected trucks, the column is not sturdy enough and could detach from the mechanism, resulting in a “loss of steering control.”

Recall risks

Loss of steering dramatically increases the risk of a crash.

Other Ford recalls

In September 2025, nearly 1.5 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles were recalled over defective rearview cameras, as reported.

Also in September 2025, Ford recalled more than 100,000 F-150 pickup trucks that could lose motive power or roll away, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers will replace the steering column free of charge.

Notifications to the owners should be mailed between December 26, 2025 and December 31, 2025.

Honda recalls new Acura SUVs over loss of power steering

Torrance, CA – September 19, 2025 – Honda (NYSE:HMC), which owns the Acura brand, is recalling 17,334 2025 Acura RDX crossover SUVs whose steering wheel may become hard to turn. This makes maneuvering more difficult, augmenting the chances of a crash.

Recall summary

The affected vehicles feature electronic power steering (EPS) to reduce the effort required to turn the steering wheel.

Due to a calibration error, the EPS may malfunction, leaving the driver with no power-steering assistance.

Recall risks

While steering the vehicle without EPS is possible, it would require considerably more effort, upping the risk of a crash.

Other Honda recalls

In February 2025, almost 300,000 Honda and Acura SUVs were recalled over a software glitch that could have caused them to stall while driving.

In December 2025, Honda recalled more than 200,000 vehicles to fix a fuel leak that could have set them on fire

The repair

The dealers will update the EPS software free of charge.

The owners should receive their notifications by October 20, 2025.

Fiat Chrysler recalls 882,000 pickup trucks for steering, pedal issues

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said on Tuesday it would recall 882,000 pickup trucks worldwide in two new recalls to address steering and pedal issues.

The Italian-American automaker said it was recalling about 660,000 heavy duty Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks from the 2013 through 2017 model years, including 574,000 in the United States, as drivers could potentially experience steering loss.

A nut could come loose and prevent drivers from being able to steer the vehicle, Fiat Chrysler said, adding it had reports of one injury and eight accidents possibly related to the issue.
