Plano, TX – June 30, 2026 – Toyota (NYSE:TM) is recalling 43,566 2024 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks that may stall while driving. This defect increases the chances of a crash and injury, particularly in dense traffic. 

This is an expansion of two previous recalls for the same issue.

Recall summary

A crankshaft is a rotating component inside the engine that transfers power to the transmission to propel the car forward. In the affected vehicles, this process is disrupted by “engine machining” debris that were not cleared prior to the start of manufacturing. These debris could cause the crankshaft bearings to fail which would stall the engine or result in it “rough running” or “knocking.”

Recall risks

A stalled vehicle may get hit by other motorists, upping the chances of injury.

Previous Toyota engine stall recall

This is the third time Toyota has addressed the engine bearing failure issue in its vehicles. First, in May 2024, more than 102,000 Tundra and Lexus LX SUVs were recalled and had their engines replaced. Subsequent analysis, however, revealed that more models are affected, which led to a recall of additional vehicles in December 2025. 

Other Toyota recalls

In April 2026, Toyota recalled nearly 74,000 Corolla Cross Hybrids that could have failed to warn pedestrians of their movement.

Also in April 2026, more than half a million Toyota SUVs were recalled because their rear seats would not lock properly.  

The repair

Dealers will inspect the engine and replace it if needed. The remedy is not currently available. Owners will receive a letter about the recall by July 20, 2026. It is not clear if they will receive a separate one once the parts come back into stock.
