Dearborn, MI – May 28, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which also owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 273,789 SUVs whose brakes may stop working or take longer to engage. This flaw increases the risk of a crash and affects the following models:
- 2022 – 2024 Ford Expedition
- 2022 – 2024 Lincoln Navigator
Recall summary
Due to a manufacturing error, the front brake lines in the affected cars may rub against surrounding engine components, which can cause wear and consequent brake fluid leaks.
Recall risks
The leak will either elongate stopping distances or, if left unattended, result in a brake failure. Both up the risk of a serious accident.
Warning signs
If the brake fluid level drops drops really low, it will trigger a red brake warning indicator on the dashboard.
Background of the recall
The carmaker discovered the problem following 49 warranty reports and customer complaints. No crashes or injuries have been reported.
Other Ford recalls
Earlier this month, Ford and Lincoln SUVs were also recalled due to a brake fluid leak, albeit as a result of a different issue.
Also in May 2025, Ford Explorer SUVs were recalled over the risk of a rollaway, as reported.
The repair
The dealers will replace brake lines free of charge.
The owners should receive letters with more information between May 26, 2025 and May 30, 2025.
