Auburn Hills, MI – October 30, 2024 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns Dodge and Alfa Romeo brands, has recalled 20,755 SUVs whose brakes may fail. This defect can result in an accident and injuries to everyone involved.
The following models are affected:
- 2024 – 2025 Dodge Hornet
- 2024 – 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale
Recall summary
In the affected SUVs, the brake pedal may collapse. It is not clear why this happens.
Recall risks
If the brake pedal collapses, the driver will not be able to slow down and stop the vehicle safely, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.
Safety tips
In the event of brake failure, apply the parking brake and continue driving until you come to a complete stop. The automatic emergency braking system – which these cars have – will also apply brakes on its own if it detects an obstacle up ahead.
Background of the recall
The recall comes on the heels of 12 instances of collapsing brake pedals, one of which resulted in an accident. Luckily, no injuries have taken place.
Other Dodge recalls
Stellantis is currently being investigated by the U.S. government over a fatal accident in which an occupant was trapped inside a burning Dodge Journey, as reported.
On a separate note, some of these Hornet and Tonale SUVs may have been affected by a March 2024 recall caused by incorrect weight labels, also as reported.
The repair
Dealers will add a bolt and nut to the brake pedal assembly, increasing its structural integrity. The repair will be free of charge.
Owners should be notified on October 24, 2024.
