Ford recalls Bronco SUVs over faulty rearview display

Dearborn, MI – November 20, 2022 – Ford (NYSE:F), is issuing a recall for 47,046 2021-2022 Ford Bronco SUVs over a problem with the rearview display. The screen may continue to display the image from the rear camera even after reverse gear is no longer engaged, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

Recall summary

When reverse gear is engaged, the dashboard touchscreen displays a video feed of the area behind the vehicle as taken by the Bronco rearview camera. This guides the driver in maneuvering the vehicle to avoid obstacles and hazards.

In the affected vehicles, a software error could cause the dashboard monitor to continue displaying the image taken by the rear camera, even after the driver has already shifted from reverse gear.

Recall risks

The defect could distract the driver and increase the risk of a crash. 

Other Ford Bronco recalls

In June, Ford issued a recall for 53,103 2021-2022 Ford Bronco SUVs over a faulty child safety lock feature on the rear passenger doors, as reported.

Also part of Ford Bronco recalls was an announcement in July involving a total of 63,294 vehicles  due to detaching windshields.

The repair

Ford will deploy an over-the-air software update to fix the issue. Owners can also bring their affected vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer, where the remedy will be provided free of charge. Ford will reimburse owners who had these repairs made before the recall order was announced.

Letters with more information will be mailed by December 23, 2022.

Ford issues Bronco recall over faulty child safety lock

Dearborn, MI – June 23, 2022 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 53,103 vehicles because of a child safety lock malfunction, which increases the risk of injury to a child in the vehicle. The recall includes four-door 2021 Ford Bronco and 2022 Ford Bronco SUVs.

The component in question is the rear passenger side door, with part number M2DB-S24630-BG.

Recall summary

Child safety locks prevent the vehicle’s rear doors from being opened from the inside. Because of a manufacturing issue, the affected vehicles’ child safety locks may not align properly with the door latch mechanism. As a result, it is possible for the rear passenger door to be opened from the inside, even when the child safety lock is on. 

Recall risks

Child safety locks are intended to keep children from opening the vehicle’s rear doors from the inside in unsafe situations — for example, in a busy parking lot. A malfunctioning child safety lock increases the risk of injury to a child occupant.

How to check if the lock is faulty

Owners will receive instructions explaining how to check their Broncos for child lock issues as an interim step. This will likely involve turning the child locks on, then attempting to open the rear doors from the inside. If the door opens, a repair is needed. This check does not replace inspection by a Ford or Lincoln dealer.

Other recent Ford Bronco recalls

The 2021 Ford Bronco is currently being investigated by the U.S. Government’s auto safety regulator over a stalling issue. This investigation could  lead to a formal recall, as engine stalling increases the risk of a crash.

In April, 2021 and 2022 Ford Bronco Sport and 2020 to 2022 Ford Escape vehicles were subjected to a recall over a fire risk.

Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Escape vehicles were also subjected to a recall in December 2021 over decreased braking performance,

Repair

Owners will be able to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect ​​and replace the locks at no cost.

They should expect to receive information regarding the repair program between July 25, 2022 and July 29, 2022.

Ford recalls Bronco Sport, Escape and Corsair cars that may stall

Dearborn, MI – September 25, 2021 – Ford (NYSE:F) has issued a recall for 13,334 cars from its 2021 and 2022 line-up to fix an engine stalling issue. Stalling on the road can result in a crash, increasing the risk of an injury for both the occupants of the car in question and nearby drivers.

The affected models include the following SUVs and light vehicles:

  • 2021 – 2022 Ford Bronco Sport
  • 2021 Ford Escape
  • 2021 Lincoln Corsair

The component in question is the “fuel delivery module” with part numbers LX61-9H307-TC/BC and LX61-9H307-BC/YB.

Recall summary

The affected vehicles are fitted with a faulty fuel delivery module, which is the part that pumps fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. Owing to a manufacturing error, the wall of the fuel tube inside the module may be too thin which can cause the module to leak inside the fuel tank. This can result in a drop in fuel pressure to the engine, causing it to stall. It can also prevent the engine from starting in the first place. 

Recall risks

If the engine loses power while driving, it can increase the risk of another vehicle crashing into the stalled car, resulting in an injury. 

Other Ford recalls

Ford Explorer recalls include four recalls over the past five years for multiple model-years because of faulty suspension which can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Loss of control – albeit because of a different issue – is behind another recent Ford recall that, in addition to Ford Explorers,  includes Taurus sedans and Edge SUVs.

The 2021 Ford Explorer was recalled in August for improper deployment of side airbags and in December of last year for a  potential loss of power.

The repair

Lincoln and Ford dealers will replace the fuel delivery module, free of charge. 

Owners will be notified between October 4 and October 8, 2021.
