GM recalls Optiq, Equinox EVs over loss of control

Warren, MI – November 4, 2025 – General Motors (NYSE:GM), which owns the Chevrolet and Cadillac brands, is recalling 22,914 electric vehicles (EVs) whose drivers may lose control of the cars because of defective tires. The issue ups the chances of an injury and property damage.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 – 2026 Cadillac Optiq
  • 2025 – 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV

Only vehicles equipped with 21-inch all-season tires made by supplier Continental suffer from this problem.

Recall summary

The affected EVs have one or more tires that were not manufactured correctly. As a result, their tread surface may detach while driving. If that happens, the driver may lose control of the car.

Recall risks

The defect significantly increases the risk of injury and a serious accident, putting the lives of the occupants at risk.

Warning signs

The driver may see unusual tire wear or bulges on the sides or notice vibrations and unusual noise while driving.

Other Chevrolet recalls

In October 2025, nearly 24,000 Chevrolet Equinox EVs were recalled over a malfunctioning pedestrian warning system.

In May 2025, General Motors recalled almost 600,000 Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC SUVs and pickup trucks whose engines could have suffered from a catastrophic failure.

The repair

The dealers will replace the tires free of charge.

Notifications to the owners should be mailed on or before December 1, 2025.
