GM recalls Sierra, Silverado trucks that may stall

Warren, MI – April 7, 2026 – General Motors (NYSE:GM), which owns the Chevrolet and GMC brands, is recalling 11,787 pickup trucks that may lose power while driving. This defect ups the chances of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 – 2026 GMC Sierra 3500
  • 2025 – 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Recall summary

The affected trucks have dual fuel tanks for extended range – a primary at the front and a secondary one behind it. Due to a software glitch, the fuel pump inside the rear tank may fail to transfer gasoline into the front tank, which could starve the engine and cause it to abruptly seize.

Recall risks

A stalled truck may get hit by other vehicles, especially in dense or fast-moving traffic.

Other Chevrolet recalls

In March 2026, GM recalled nearly 45,000 trucks and SUVs whose rear wheels could have locked while shifting gears.

In November 2025, the manufacturer recalled approximately 23,000 Cadillac and Chevrolet EVs due to the risk of the driver losing control because of defective tires, as reported.

The repair

Dealers will update the corresponding software free of charge. Drivers who are opted in will receive the same update over-the-air (OTA).

Notifications to the owners will be mailed by April 20, 2026.
