Ford recalls vehicles over fly-away wind deflectors

Dearborn, MI – November 11, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which also owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 174,853 trucks and SUVs whose moonroof wind deflectors may fly away while driving. This creates a road hazard for other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2021 – 2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2021 – 2022 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-150
  • 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

The wind deflector is a plastic trim that extends upwards to reduce wind noise when the moon roof is open. In the affected vehicles, the deflector was not fitted correctly and could detach while driving.

Recall risks

A detached moonroof wind deflector could fall on the road, where it would create a road hazard for other motorists.

Warning signs

The drivers could hear rattling sounds and increased wind noise when the moonroof is open or notice the wind deflector is not seated correctly.

Background of the recall

The recall comes on the heels of 341 warranty and two field reports. While there have been no accidents, two drivers got hit by the detaching deflectors, according to Ford.

Other Ford recalls

In October 2025, almost 60,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles were recalled over a defective engine block heater that could have caused a fire

Also in October 2025, nearly 300,000 heavy-duty Ford pickup trucks were recalled because their rearview cameras would not show a clear image.

The repair

The dealers will repair the deflector free of charge.

Notifications to the owners were set to be mailed between November 3, 2025 and November 7, 2025.

Ford recalls multiple models that may catch fire

Dearborn, MI – October 30, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which also owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 59,006 vehicles that may burst into flames while parked. This defect ups the chances of an injury and property damage.

This recall comes on the heels of another one conducted for a similar issue earlier this year and is a result of several dozen fires and multiple lawsuits.

The list of the affected models includes:

  • 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco
  • 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco Sport
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford Escape
  • 2016 – 2018 Ford Explorer
  • 2020 – 2023 Ford Explorer
  • 2019 – 2020 Ford Fusion
  • 2022 – 2024 Ford Maverick
  • 2019 – 2024 Ford Ranger
  • 2020 – 2022 Lincoln Corsair
  • 2016 – 2019 Lincoln MKC

Recall summary

An engine block heater helps the engine reach operating temperatures faster in cold weather.

In the affected vehicles, the block heater “may crack and develop a coolant leak,” which could cause it to short-circuit and catch fire when plugged in.

Recall risks

A fire can put the lives of the car occupants and surrounding people at risk. It can also result in property damage. For tips on what to do in the event of fire, please visit this article.

Safety tips

Owners are advised not to plug in the block heaters before the issue is remedied.

Warning signs

The drivers may notice puddles of coolant underneath the vehicle and experience a “loss of cabin heat.”

The coolant loss could also trigger a warning on the dashboard, cause the engine to overheat and result in a burning smell.

Background of the recall

In June 2025, 6,800 Ford and Lincoln models were recalled over a similar issue with their engine block heaters, as reported. Even though the defective heaters were produced by the same supplier, it does not seem that the present recall is an expansion of the one conducted earlier in the year.

The present recall comes on the back of 46 fires, 30 lawsuits and multiple complaints about the issue. No injuries or accidents have been reported.

Other Ford recalls

In September 2025, Ford recalled close to 1.5 million vehicles because their rearview cameras could fail to show an image

The repair

The dealers will replace the heaters free of charge. The manufacturer advises that an additional remedy will be available in February of 2026.

Notifications to the owners should be mailed by October 24, 2025.

Ford recalls F-series super duty trucks with faulty rearview cameras

Dearborn, MI – October 28, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 291,901 heavy-duty pickup trucks whose rearview cameras may not show a clear image. This defect reduces visibility while reversing, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2020 – 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

Due to a software error, the rearview camera image in the affected vehicles may appear too dark or too light, making it difficult for the driver to see the area behind the vehicle.

Recall risks

Without a clear rearview camera image to aid visibility, the driver is more likely to crash into surrounding objects or pedestrians while backing up.

Ford’s rearview camera recalls

Ford recently recalled 1.46 million cars due to faulty rearview cameras because of a “supplier quality issue.” The recall was an expansion of three previous recalls conducted for the same issue. It also came on the back of a US government investigation, which resulted in the manufacturer’s agreement to pay a hefty penalty and “increase the speed of recall decisions,” among other things.

Other Ford recalls

In October 2025, Ford recalled nearly 116,000 pickup trucks whose steering mechanisms could have fallen apart

In September 2025, more than 100,000 Ford Taurus cars were recalled over detaching door trims that could have created a road hazard

The repair

The dealers will update rearview camera software free of charge.

The owners should receive their notifications by March 31, 2026.

Ford recalls SD pickups over loss of steering

Dearborn, MI – October 7, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 115,539 pickup trucks whose steering mechanisms may fall apart. This defect makes the vehicle difficult to control, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following trucks are affected:

  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

The steering column connects the wheel to the rest of the steering mechanism and transmits driver input, allowing the car to be propelled forward. In the affected trucks, the column is not sturdy enough and could detach from the mechanism, resulting in a “loss of steering control.”

Recall risks

Loss of steering dramatically increases the risk of a crash.

Other Ford recalls

In September 2025, nearly 1.5 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles were recalled over defective rearview cameras, as reported.

Also in September 2025, Ford recalled more than 100,000 F-150 pickup trucks that could lose motive power or roll away, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers will replace the steering column free of charge.

Notifications to the owners should be mailed between December 26, 2025 and December 31, 2025.

Ford recalls Tauruses over detaching door trims

Dearborn, MI – September 30, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 101,944 2016-2019 Ford Taurus cars because their door trim may fall off while driving. This could generate a road hazard,  upping the chances of a crash and injury.

Recall summary

The door trim on the affected vehicles’ B-pillars was not fitted correctly and may fall off while driving.

Recall risks

A fly-away trim can land on the road and create a road hazard for other motorists, who may crash while trying to avoid it.

Warning signs

The driver may notice the door trim is loose or hear “rattling noises” while driving.

Other Ford recalls

In September 2025, Ford recalled nearly half a million vehicles over defective rearview cameras on the back of the manufacturer’s violation of “federal motor vehicle safety standards,” as reported.

In August 2025, close to 22,000 Mustangs and Lincolns were recalled because their headlights and taillights could have failed to illuminate, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers will replace the door trims free of charge.

Notifications to the affected drivers should be mailed between December 1, 2025 and December 5, 2025.

Ford recalls 1.46 million cars over faulty rearview cameras

Dearborn, MI – September 11, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 1.46 million cars whose rearview cameras may fail to show an image.

The recall is an expansion of three previous recalls conducted for the same issue and comes on the heels of thousands of warranty claims and multiple accidents. It also appears to be a direct result of an agreement between the US government auto safety regulator and Ford entered into due to the manufacturer’s violation of “federal motor vehicle safety standards.”  Under the agreement, Ford is also required to pay a hefty fine which amounts to the “second-largest civil penalty” in the regulator’s history.

The following vehicles are affected:

  • 2019 Ford Ranger
  • 2015 – 2018 Ford Edge
  • 2015 – 2017 Ford Expedition
  • 2015 – 2019 Ford 250 SD
  • 2015 – 2019 Ford 350 SD
  • 2015 – 2019 Ford 450 SD
  • 2016 – 2019 Ford 550 SD
  • 2015 – 2019 Ford Mustang
  • 2016 – 2019 Ford Transit
  • 2017 – 2019 Ford Econoline
  • 2015 – 2018 Ford Transit Connect
  • 2015 – 2019 Lincoln MKC
  • 2015 – 2017 Lincoln Navigator

Recall summary

Drivers of the affected vehicles may receive a “distorted, and… intermittent” image or not see one altogether when backing up. The defect is caused by a “supplier quality” issue which resulted in corrosion of the part of the camera that connects it to the rest of the car.

Recall risks

The absence of a rearview camera image makes it difficult for the driver to see what is behind the car when reversing. This augments the risk of a crash and injury.

Thousands of warranty claims

The recall comes on the back of 44,000 warranty claims and 18 accidents. No injuries have been reported.

Background of the recall

The recall comes on the back of a US government investigation, three previous recalls and a so-called consent order.  The latter is a binding agreement between the US auto safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the manufacturer to resolve issues related to non-compliance with federal safety regulations.

NHTSA issued the consent order to Ford in November of last year because of the manufacturer failing to recall cars  with “defective rearview cameras in a timely manner” and to provide “accurate recall information.

Under the order, Ford is set to pay a $165 million penalty and implement a number of corrective measures, including reviewing all the recalls for the past three years and increasing “the speed of recall decisions.”

The penalty is the second-largest in the agency’s 54-year history, only eclipsed by the Takata airbag $1 billion settlement.

Other Ford recalls

In July 2025, Ford recalled 200,000 cars also because of defective rearview cameras, as reported. However, the recall does not appear to be connected to the present one.

Earlier this month, Ford recalled over 100,000 F-150 pickups that could lose power or roll away, also as reported.

The repair

The dealers will replace the rearview camera free of charge.

The owners should be mailed letters with more information between September 22, 2025 and September 28, 2025.

Ford expands F-150 recall that may lose power or roll away

Dearborn, MI – September 2, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 103,174 2023-2025 Ford F-150 pickup trucks that may lose motive power or roll away when parked, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

This recall supersedes the one conducted in May of last year for the same issue.

Recall summary

Rear axle transfers the power from the engine to the rear wheels and holds them in place.

In the affected trucks, the bolts that connect the axle internal moving parts may break. This can result in a loss of motive power or allow the vehicle to roll away when the parking brake is not engaged.

Recall risks

A damaged rear axle may leave the vehicle stranded on the road, where it can get hit by oncoming traffic or cause it to roll away when parked. Both situations can lead to an injury.

Warning signs

The drivers may notice clicking or rattling sounds coming from the back of the truck.

Previous recall

Ford first became aware of this issue in June 2022, which eventually led to a recall in May 2024.

However, following that, the manufacturer received 194 warranty claims for cars with broken rear axles outside of the scope of the original recall. This led to the present expansion.

Other Ford recalls

In August 2025, Ford recalled Bronco and Escape SUVs over the risk of fire, as reported.

In July 2025, Ford recalled more than 800,000 vehicles that could stall due to a defective fuel pump

The repair

The dealers will replace the rear axle assemblies free of charge.

The owners should receive notifications between August 18, 2025 and May 22, 2026.

Ford recalls vehicles over inoperable headlights, taillights

Dearborn, MI – August 22, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 21,765 cars and SUVs whose headlights, taillights and turn signals may fail. This defect reduces the vehicle’s visibility,  upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 Ford Mustang
  • 2025 Ford Mustang Mach E
  • 2025 Lincoln Nautilus

Recall summary

The LED module in the affected vehicles may contain a burned diode which can result in its malfunction. As a result, headlights, taillights and turn signals may not turn on when needed.

Recall risks

Unilluminated headlights or taillights reduce the vehicle’s visibility, and the absence of the turn signals makes other motorists unaware of the driver’s intention. Both situations increase the risk of a crash and injury.

Warning signs

A malfunctioning headlight may trigger a corresponding warning on the dashboard and cause the turn signal indicator to flash at a faster rate than usual.

Other Ford recalls

In August 2025, Ford recalled nearly 700,000 Bronco and Escape SUVs over the risk of fire, as reported.

In July 2025, more than 800,000 Ford vehicles were recalled over the risk of stall caused by a defective fuel pump

The repair

Dealers will replace the LED modules free of charge.

The owners should receive their notifications between October 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.

Ford issues fourth recall for Bronco, Escape SUVs that may catch fire

Dearborn, MI – August 5, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 694,271 SUVs over a fuel leak that may cause an underhood fire. This defect ups the risks of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco Sport
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford Escape

The present recall –  conducted on the heels of an ongoing U.S. government investigation – expands and replaces three preceding recalls done to address the issue. The cars that were previously repaired will need a new remedy.

Recall summary

The gasoline is fed into the engine through fuel injectors, which serve as valves that open when needed. In the affected SUVs, the injector’s housing may crack, allowing highly pressurized fuel to spray onto the surrounding hot engine components, which can lead to a fire.

Recall risks

An engine fire significantly augments the risk of a crash and serious injury. Leading up to the recall, at least eight vehicles caught on fire. Luckily, no injuries have been reported.

However, four people were injured leading up to the first recall, as reported.

Warning signs

A leaking fuel may cause a strong “odor both inside and outside the vehicle.”

If a fire occurs, the passengers may notice smoke and flames billowing from under the hood and “receive an instrument cluster warning.”

Safety tips

For more tips on what to do if the vehicle catches fire, please visit this dedicated article

Background of the recall

In December 2022 and March 2024, Ford recalled some of the included vehicles to install a software update to detect a leak and a tube to drain any escaping gasoline. Some of the vehicles were once again recalled in March 2025, because they did not receive the “software portion of the remedy.”

On the back of the second recall, in April 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation to evaluate whether the remedy fully mitigated the risk of the cars catching fire. The investigation is still underway.

Other Ford recalls

In July 2025, approximately 200,000 Ford and Lincoln pickup trucks and SUVs were recalled over inoperable rearview cameras.

In June 2025, Ford recalled nearly half a million Explorer SUVs whose door trims could detach while driving, as reported.

The repair

The carmaker is currently working on a long-term solution. As a temporary fix, the dealers will install a free software update on vehicles that previously did not receive it.

Ford recalls multiple models over stall risk after US government investigation

Dearborn, MI – July 29, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 850,318 vehicles that may lose motive power due to a faulty fuel pump. The defect increases the risk of a crash and injury, especially in dense traffic.

The recall comes on the heels of an ongoing U.S. government investigation.

The lengthy list of the affected models includes:

  • 2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford Bronco
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford Explorer
  • 2021 – 2022 Ford F-150
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-450 SD
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-550 SD
  • 2021 – 2022 Ford Mustang
  • 2021 – 2023 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2021 – 2022 Lincoln Navigator

Recall summary

The low-pressure fuel pump transfers the gasoline from the fuel tank to the engine. In the affected models, this pump was built incorrectly and may fail to deliver sufficient amounts of fuel, which can cause the vehicle to stall.

Recall risks

A stalled vehicle can get hit by oncoming traffic, augmenting the risk of an injury. Luckily, no injuries or accidents have been reported leading up to the recall.

Warning signs

A failing fuel pump may reduce the engine’s power output, cause it to misfire or run rough or trigger a check engine light.

The background of the recall

The recall is the result of an ongoing investigation by the U.S. government auto safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which was opened last June on the back of six complaints alleging stall. The recall comes on the back of 1,860 warranty claims, 28 field reports and 57 customer service reports.

Other Ford recalls

In July 2025, close to 28,000 Ford Bronco SUVs were recalled over defective child locks that could allow rear doors to be inadvertently opened from the inside

In June 2025, a loose door trim caused a recall that affected almost half a million Ford Explorer SUVs, as reported.

The repair

The carmaker is currently working on a solution to this problem, which, once available, will be performed free of charge.

The owners should receive their notifications between July 14, 2025 and July 18, 2025.
