Ford recalls Mustang Mach cars over reduced visibility

Dearborn, MI – February 13, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 45,047 2025-2026 Ford Mustang Mach E electric SUVs whose lights may stop working. This defect reduces visibility, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

Recall summary

The lights’ control module in the affected vehicles may not engage upon startup due to a software glitch. As a result, the vehicles’ high beam, low beam, daytime running lamp and turn signals may not illuminate when needed.

Recall risks

Inoperable headlights reduce the driver’s visibility and make the vehicle more difficult to notice for other motorists.

Warning signs

The driver may see an “advanced front lighting feature temporarily unavailable” warning on the dashboard and notice that the turn signal indicators are flashing faster than usual.

Other Ford recalls

In December 2025, Ford recalled nearly 110,000 SUVs whose trims could have detached while driving.

In November 2025, approximately 7,500 Ford Econoline trucks and vans were recalled because their passengers could have been burned by the hot engine cover

The repair

In April 2026, the carmaker is set to deploy a free over-the-air (OTA) software update to address the issue.

Interim notifications to the owners will be mailed between January 26, 2026 and January 30, 2026. Another set of letters is expected to go out once the remedy becomes available.

Ford issues third recall for car fires

Dearborn, MI – February 3, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F), which owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 116,672 cars and SUVs that may catch fire while parked. This defect increases the risk of injury or property damage.

This is the third recall issued by Ford over the same issue. The following models are affected by the latest round:

  • 2013 – 2019 Ford Escape
  • 2013 – 2018 Ford Focus
  • 2015 – 2016 Lincoln MKC

Recall summary

An engine block heater keeps the engine coolant warm while the vehicle is parked in cold weather. This makes it easier to start the engine and reduces emissions.

In the affected vehicles, the block heater may crack and allow coolant to leak into the wiring connector, which may cause it to short-circuit and catch fire.

Recall risks

If the vehicle catches fire, the flames may spread to surrounding objects, causing property damage and increasing the risk of injury.

Warning signs

The drivers may notice a puddle of coolant under the vehicle, a “loss of cabin heat” or engine overheating. In addition, an electrical short may generate smoke and a burning odor.

Safety tips

The owners are advised to avoid using the engine block heater until the repair is performed.

You can find out more about what to do if the vehicle catches fire in this article

Background of the recall

Ford has already recalled multiple models over the same issue, once in June 2025, when approximately 6,800 vehicles were affected, and then again in October 2025, as reported.

The latest recall comes on the back of 12 fires. No injuries or accidents have been recorded.

Other Ford recalls

In January 2026, Ford recalled more than 270,000 hybrids and electric vehicles that could have rolled away while parked

The repair

The dealers will replace the engine block heater free of charge.

US government investigates Ford over stalled cars

Washington, D.C. – January 18, 2026 – The U.S. government auto safety regulator is investigating Ford (NYSE:F) over allegations that some of their vehicles may stall. The defect would increase the risk of a crash and injury, especially in dense traffic.

If this Ford engine issue leads to a recall, it could affect an estimated 10,473 vehicles, including:

  • 2014 – 2017 Ford Fiesta
  • 2015 – 2018 Ford Focus

All vehicles are equipped with a 1.0-liter Ecoboost engine and have manual transmission.

Recall summary

The regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), opened an investigation on December 18, 2025, following 44 complaints of stalled Ford vehicles.

According to the claims, the engines would seize due to metal shavings in the oil pump caused by a defective timing belt. The timing belt connects the engine’s internal components – the crankshaft and camshafts – and synchronises their rotation. In the affected vehicles it may disintegrate for unknown reasons.

Risks

A stalled car may get hit by other vehicles, especially if this occurs in fast-moving traffic, upping the risk of injury.

Warning signs

Some drivers noticed that a “low engine oil” warning popped up before the engine shut down.

Dangerous incidents

One driver stated that their car “suddenly” lost power while traveling at 65 miles per hour (mph) and had to have its engine replaced after it could not be repaired.

Another driver described a terrifying moment when the engine “began to sound like a tank” and would not restart.

Previous Ford recalls

In December 2025, nearly 110,000 Ford Escape SUVs were recalled because their trims could have flown away while driving

In October 2025, Ford recalled close to 60,000 vehicles over the risk of fire caused by a leaking engine block heater

Ford recalls Maverick, Mustang cars that may roll away

Dearborn, MI – January 2, 2026 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 272,645 hybrids and electric vehicles (EVs) that may roll away while parked. This defect ups the chances of a crash and injury or property damage.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 – 2026 Ford Maverick
  • 2024 – 2026 Ford Mustang Mach E
  • 2022 – 2026 Ford F-150 Lightning BEV

Recall summary

When the driver shifts into Park, a brake mechanism inside the transmission locks it up to prevent movement. In the affected vehicles, the Park gear mechanism may jam, preventing the parking brake from engaging.

Recall risks

With the parking gear not engaged, the vehicle may roll away and crash into surrounding pedestrians or objects.

Warning signs

Should the vehicle fail to shift into Park, the driver may notice the absence of the “P” symbol on the dashboard, accompanied by a wrench icon.

Safety tips

The electronic parking brake (EPB) should engage automatically when you park. Do not disengage it before leaving the vehicle.

Other Ford recalls

In December 2025, Ford recalled nearly 110,000 SUVs whose trims could have fallen off while driving, creating a road hazard

In October 2025, almost 60,000 Ford and Lincolns were recalled over a fire risk caused by a leaking engine block heater.

The repair

The vehicles will receive an over-the-air (OTA) software update to ensure unobstructed Park gear engagement. This repair will be free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed between February 19, 2026 and May 12, 2026.

Ford recalls Escape SUVs over fly-away trim

Dearborn, MI – December 18, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 108,762 SUVs whose trims may detach while driving. This would create a road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 Ford Escape
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford Escape

Recall summary

The liftgate hinges of the affected SUVs have a plastic cover designed to improve aerodynamics and appearance.

The cover may fall off while driving because it was not fitted correctly by the manufacturer.

Recall risks

Warning signs

The drivers may notice the hinge cover is not seated correctly or hear wind and rattling noises while driving.

Other Ford recalls

In November 2025, approximately 7,000 Econoline trucks and vans were recalled because their engine covers could have burned the occupants.

Ford recalls E-series vans that may burn occupants

Dearborn, MI – November 27, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 7,046 Econoline trucks and vans whose passengers may get burned by the hot engine cover, upping the chances of injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2021 Ford E-350
  • 2021 Ford E-450

These vehicles were already recalled over the same issue in January 2020, but were not fixed.

Recall summary

The engine in Econoline vans and trucks is partially located between the front seats and is insulated to prevent burns. Despite that, the engine cover of the affected vehicles may become too hot due to faulty heat management software.

Recall risks

The driver or passengers may burn themselves on the hot engine cover.

Warning signs

The occupants may notice that the engine cover near their feet is gradually becoming hotter.

Previous Ford engine cover recall

Ford already addressed this problem on these vans and trucks in January 2020 by installing an improved engine cover with better thermal insulation and updating the corresponding software. In some vehicles, however, the software update was not performed for unknown reasons.

Other Ford recalls

In November 2025, more than 170,000 Ford and Lincoln trucks and SUVs were recalled because their wind deflectors may have flown away while driving

Ford recalls vehicles over fly-away wind deflectors

Dearborn, MI – November 11, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which also owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 174,853 trucks and SUVs whose moonroof wind deflectors may fly away while driving. This creates a road hazard for other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2021 – 2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2021 – 2022 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2021 – 2023 Ford F-150
  • 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

The wind deflector is a plastic trim that extends upwards to reduce wind noise when the moon roof is open. In the affected vehicles, the deflector was not fitted correctly and could detach while driving.

Recall risks

A detached moonroof wind deflector could fall on the road, where it would create a road hazard for other motorists.

Warning signs

The drivers could hear rattling sounds and increased wind noise when the moonroof is open or notice the wind deflector is not seated correctly.

Background of the recall

The recall comes on the heels of 341 warranty and two field reports. While there have been no accidents, two drivers got hit by the detaching deflectors, according to Ford.

Other Ford recalls

In October 2025, almost 60,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles were recalled over a defective engine block heater that could have caused a fire

Also in October 2025, nearly 300,000 heavy-duty Ford pickup trucks were recalled because their rearview cameras would not show a clear image.

Ford recalls multiple models that may catch fire

Dearborn, MI – October 30, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which also owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 59,006 vehicles that may burst into flames while parked. This defect ups the chances of an injury and property damage.

This recall comes on the heels of another one conducted for a similar issue earlier this year and is a result of several dozen fires and multiple lawsuits.

The list of the affected models includes:

  • 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco
  • 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco Sport
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford Escape
  • 2016 – 2018 Ford Explorer
  • 2020 – 2023 Ford Explorer
  • 2019 – 2020 Ford Fusion
  • 2022 – 2024 Ford Maverick
  • 2019 – 2024 Ford Ranger
  • 2020 – 2022 Lincoln Corsair
  • 2016 – 2019 Lincoln MKC

Recall summary

An engine block heater helps the engine reach operating temperatures faster in cold weather.

In the affected vehicles, the block heater “may crack and develop a coolant leak,” which could cause it to short-circuit and catch fire when plugged in.

Recall risks

A fire can put the lives of the car occupants and surrounding people at risk. It can also result in property damage. For tips on what to do in the event of fire, please visit this article.

Safety tips

Owners are advised not to plug in the block heaters before the issue is remedied.

Warning signs

The drivers may notice puddles of coolant underneath the vehicle and experience a “loss of cabin heat.”

The coolant loss could also trigger a warning on the dashboard, cause the engine to overheat and result in a burning smell.

Background of the recall

In June 2025, 6,800 Ford and Lincoln models were recalled over a similar issue with their engine block heaters, as reported. Even though the defective heaters were produced by the same supplier, it does not seem that the present recall is an expansion of the one conducted earlier in the year.

The present recall comes on the back of 46 fires, 30 lawsuits and multiple complaints about the issue. No injuries or accidents have been reported.

Other Ford recalls

In September 2025, Ford recalled close to 1.5 million vehicles because their rearview cameras could fail to show an image

The repair

The dealers will replace the heaters free of charge. The manufacturer advises that an additional remedy will be available in February of 2026.

Notifications to the owners should be mailed by October 24, 2025.

Ford recalls F-series super duty trucks with faulty rearview cameras

Dearborn, MI – October 28, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 291,901 heavy-duty pickup trucks whose rearview cameras may not show a clear image. This defect reduces visibility while reversing, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2020 – 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2020 – 2022 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

Due to a software error, the rearview camera image in the affected vehicles may appear too dark or too light, making it difficult for the driver to see the area behind the vehicle.

Recall risks

Without a clear rearview camera image to aid visibility, the driver is more likely to crash into surrounding objects or pedestrians while backing up.

Ford’s rearview camera recalls

Ford recently recalled 1.46 million cars due to faulty rearview cameras because of a “supplier quality issue.” The recall was an expansion of three previous recalls conducted for the same issue. It also came on the back of a US government investigation, which resulted in the manufacturer’s agreement to pay a hefty penalty and “increase the speed of recall decisions,” among other things.

Other Ford recalls

In October 2025, Ford recalled nearly 116,000 pickup trucks whose steering mechanisms could have fallen apart

In September 2025, more than 100,000 Ford Taurus cars were recalled over detaching door trims that could have created a road hazard

The repair

The dealers will update rearview camera software free of charge.

The owners should receive their notifications by March 31, 2026.

Ford recalls SD pickups over loss of steering

Dearborn, MI – October 7, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 115,539 pickup trucks whose steering mechanisms may fall apart. This defect makes the vehicle difficult to control, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following trucks are affected:

  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2020 – 2021 Ford F-450 SD

Recall summary

The steering column connects the wheel to the rest of the steering mechanism and transmits driver input, allowing the car to be propelled forward. In the affected trucks, the column is not sturdy enough and could detach from the mechanism, resulting in a “loss of steering control.”

Recall risks

Loss of steering dramatically increases the risk of a crash.

Other Ford recalls

In September 2025, nearly 1.5 million Ford and Lincoln vehicles were recalled over defective rearview cameras, as reported.

Also in September 2025, Ford recalled more than 100,000 F-150 pickup trucks that could lose motive power or roll away, also as reported.
