Toyota recalls C-HR cars that may stall

Plano, TX – October 27, 2026 – Toyota (NYSE:TM) is recalling 8,521 2026 Toyota C-HR electric SUVs that may stall while driving. This defect increases the chances of a crash and injury, especially in dense traffic.

NHTSA recall number is 26V570000.

Recall summary

The battery electric vehicle electronic control unit (BEV ECU) is a computer that is responsible for monitoring and managing the battery. A software error in the BEV ECU may allow the battery to overcharge, leading to its shutdown. This can result in a loss of power, particularly when driving at higher speeds.

Recall risks

A car that suddenly stalls in the middle of the road can get hit by other vehicles, potentially resulting in a multi-car pileup.

Warning signs

As the shutdown occurs, the driver will see warning lights and hear a “buzzer.”

Other Toyota recalls

In April 2026, Toyota recalled nearly 74,000 Corolla Cross Hybrids that could have failed to warn pedestrians of their movement.

In the same month, more than half a million Toyota SUVs were recalled because their rear seats would not lock properly.

The repair

Dealers will update the battery software free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed between October 18, 2026 and November 1, 2026.

Recall summary

The driveshaft is a critical component that transmits power from the engine and transmission toward the wheels, helping propel the vehicle forward. The rear differential, which is connected to the driveshaft, then distributes that power to the rear wheels.

In the affected vehicle, the physical connection between the driveshaft and rear differential may wear out, causing a loss of motive power.

Recall risks

A car that loses motive power can get hit by other motorists, especially in fast-moving traffic, increasing the risk of an injury.

In addition, a stationary vehicle whose driveshaft is broken may roll away if the parking brake is not engaged and crash into surrounding pedestrians or objects.

Other BMW recalls

In February 2026, BMW recalled nearly 88,000 cars and SUVs that could have caught fire due to a faulty starter motor.

In October 2025, almost 200,000 BMW vehicles were recalled over the risk of fire caused by a similar issue.

The repair

Dealers will inspect the driveshafts and either add adhesive to them or replace the whole assembly if needed. Everything will be performed free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed by October 2, 2026.
