Stellantis recalls RAM pickups over reduced stability and occupant protection

Auburn Hills, MI – December 30, 2025 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns the RAM brand, is recalling 52,565 pickup trucks that may be unstable or offer insufficient occupant protection in a crash. Both defects increase the risk of an injury.

The following models are affected:  

  • 2025 RAM 2500
  • 2025 RAM 3500
  • 2025 RAM 4500
  • 2025 RAM 5500

Recall summary

The electronic stability control (ESP) system prevents the wheels from locking up or sliding during harsh maneuvers. In a crash, seatbelt pretensioners tighten the seatbelt to hold the passenger’s torso more firmly, while the airbag inflates to provide a soft cushion between surrounding surfaces. 

In the affected pickup trucks, these safety features may stop working due to a software error. 

Recall risks

A vehicle with inactive ESP is less stable on the road, while inoperable seatbelt pretensioners and airbags reduce occupant protection in a crash. 

Warning signs  

ESP, airbag or seatbelt pretensioner failure will trigger corresponding warning lights on the dashboard. 

Other RAM recalls

In December 2025, more than 70,000 RAM pickup trucks were recalled because their instrument panels could have gone blank. 

On a separate note, Stellantis is currently being investigated by the U.S. government over complaints of vehicles that rolled away despite being parked.

The repair

The dealers will update the vehicle’s software, free of charge. 

Notifications to the owners will be mailed between January 15, 2026 and January 16, 2026.

Stellantis recalls RAM pickups over rearview camera issue

Auburn Hills, MI  – October 14, 2023 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns the RAM brand, is recalling 272,911 pickup trucks over rearview cameras that may fail to display an image when backing up. This increases the risk of a crash and injury.

The following vehicles are affected by this recall: 

  • 2022 – 2023 RAM 1500 
  • 2022 – 2024 RAM 2500
  • 2022 – 2023 RAM 3500

Recall summary  

In the affected vehicles, the rearview camera system may be incompatible with the onboard radio software. This may result in no image being displayed on the screen when the vehicle is backing up.

Other Stellantis recalls

In December 2022, Stellantis issued a recall for 5,834 vehicles including Dodge Charger and Dodge Durango over a transmission problem that could lead to the vehicle losing power during use.  

In March 2023, Stellantis recalled 139,019 2021-2023 Dodge Durango SUVs because of detaching rear spoilers, as reported.

The repair

Dealers will fix the issue by upgrading the radio system software free of charge. Stellantis will reimburse owners for repair costs incurred prior to the recall announcement.  

Owners should receive letters with more information on November 17, 2023.

US government investigates Stellantis over loss of braking power

Washington, D.C. – January 8, 2023 – The U.S. government’s auto safety regulator is investigating Stellantis (NYSE:STLA) over an allegation that the brakes on their heavy-duty trucks may stop working. A loss of braking power ups the risk of a crash and injury. 

If the investigation leads to a recall, it could affect an estimated 390,077 trucks, including the following: 

  • 2017 – 2018 RAM 2500
  • 2017 – 2018 RAM 3500

Investigation summary  

The regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), opened an investigation on November 11 of last year following 134 complaints about a loss of braking performance, which would occur intermittently or permanently and “at all speeds.”

Replacing the anti-lock brakes (ABS), along with the hydraulic control unit (HCU) would sometimes correct the issue but, at least in several cases, the parts were not available due to a back order. Both systems work together to control the braking force for each wheel and prevent lockups during sudden braking. 

Risks

With inoperable or ineffective brakes, the vehicle may not be able to stop in time. This increases the risk of a crash and injury.  

Other RAM truck recalls 

There were several RAM 2500 recalls that took place last year.. Among them, the one caused by a transmission fluid leak, which may lead to a fire, is the latest.

Back in June 2022, a large batch of RAM trucks was pulled from the road because their rearview cameras hadn’t been showing an image when backing up.
