Fountain Valley, CA – September 22, 2026 – Hyundai (OTCMKTS:HYMTF) is recalling 47,749 cars whose seat belts may fail to properly restrain an occupant in the event of a crash. This defect increases the risk of an injury.
The following models are affected:
- 2026 Hyundai Kona
- 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric
Recall summary
The rear center seat belt buckle may wear out prematurely and not provide enough protection in a crash due to being made “outside of specification” by a supplier in Korea.
Recall risks
If the seat belt buckle fails to hold the belt in place, the rear seat occupant can get flung from the seat, significantly upping the risk of a serious injury.
Safety tips
Owners are advised not to use the rear center seat until the repair is performed.

The repair
The dealers will replace the seat belt buckles free of charge.
Notifications to the owners will be mailed by September 11, 2026.
