Stellantis issues third Jeep recall for cars that may become hard to handle after suspension loss

Auburn Hills, MI – October 15, 2026 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns the Jeep brand, is recalling 328,381 SUVs over loss of stability due to broken suspension. The defect significantly augments the risk of a serious accident.

The list of the affected models includes:

  • 2022 – 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 2022 – 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE
  • 2021 – 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

The recall comes on the heels of an ongoing U.S. government investigation and two failed recalls for the same issue. NHTSA recall number is 26V562000.

Recall summary

A coil spring is a flexible suspension component that keeps the vehicle level and absorbs road bumps. In the affected SUVs, the rear coil spring may detach from the car because it was not fitted properly.

Recall risks

The corner of the car above the rear coil spring can collapse when it detaches. That can make the vehicle hard to control, significantly upping the odds of an accident.

Without the spring, the rear axle can grind against the tire, causing a blowout. The resulting damage could also cause a rupture of the brake lines or cracks of the exhaust system.

Lastly, a detached coil spring may create a road hazard for other motorists.

Background of the recall

Stellantis first recalled these vehicles in July 2023, as reported. In December 2025, the US government safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), opened an investigation after receiving complaints of rear coil springs detaching on the repaired vehicles.

In March 2026, Stellantis recalled the same vehicles again, also as reported.

In July 2026, the manufacturer received a complaint about a vehicle that has gone through two rounds of repairs, leading to the present recall.

The U.S. government investigation into the matter remains open.

Other Jeep recalls

In July 2026, Stellantis expanded its existing recall for Jeep Cherokee SUVs that could have rolled away when parked.

In June 2026, nearly 420,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees were recalled because their airbags may not have deployed fast enough in a crash.

The repair

Dealers will replace the isolators that hold the rear springs in place free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed between September 29, 2026 and October 7, 2026.

Toyota recalls Tacomas that may shed parts onto roadways

Plano, TX – October 13, 2026 – Toyota (NYSE:TM) is recalling 48,280 cars whose external oil reservoirs may detach and create road debris. The debris would up the risk of an accident for other vehicles.

The following models are affected:

  • 2024 – 2025 Toyota Tacoma
  • 2025 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid

Recall summary

Shock absorbers are part of the car’s suspension system that help keep the car stable and minimize any sudden movements when the car hits potholes or bumps. The external oil reservoir helps the absorbers continue working in demanding conditions, such as when going off road.

The oil reservoir in the affected vehicles can corrode and detach from the car due to “moisture intrusion.”

Recall risks

The reservoir may end up on the road where other drivers may crash swerving around it. This scenario increases the risk of an accident for all the motorists on the road.

Other Toyota recalls

In April 2026, Toyota recalled 550,000 Highlander SUVs with unsecured rear seats, as reported.

In February 2026, more than 161,000 Toyota Tundra cars were recalled due to faulty rearview cameras, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers will replace the shock absorber assemblies free of charge.

Notifications to the owners will be mailed by September 21, 2026.

Stellantis issues third Dodge Durango recall for misaligned spoilers

Auburn Hills, MI – October 6, 2026 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns the Dodge brand, is recalling 74,578 2021-2023 Dodge Durango SUVs because their rear spoilers may detach. The defect could result in an accident and subsequent injuries.

The affected vehicles were recalled in 2021 and 2023 but the repairs proved to be insufficient.

Recall summary

A spoiler is a piece of plastic trim that sits on top of the liftgate for aesthetic purposes.

The spoiler in the affected vehicles was not properly aligned with the roof, resulting in damage during liftgate use.

This could cause it to detach from the vehicle while it is in motion.

Recall risks

The spoiler can hit other vehicles on the road or create road debris. Either scenario can result in a serious accident.

Background of the recall

The affected vehicles were recalled in 2021 and then subsequently, 2023 for the same issue, as reported.

In March 2026,  the manufacturer started an investigation after receiving reports of spoilers detaching on the repaired vehicles.

Leading up to the recall, Stellantis received “8 customer assistance records, 116 warranty claims, and 37 other service records.” No accidents or injuries have been reported.

Warning signs

The driver or occupants may hear a “rattle” if the spoiler becomes loose. They may also hear the spoiler hit the body of the car “when opening or closing the liftgate.”

Other Dodge recalls

In September 2026, Stellantis recalled 49,000 Dodge and Alfa Romeo cars with faulty seat belts, as reported.

In June 2026, over 20,000 Dodge Charger and Jeep Wagoner were recalled over blank instrument panels, also as reported.

The repair
