Porsche recalls new Macan SUVs over defective rearview cameras

Atlanta, GA – April 24, 2025 – Porsche (OTCMKTS:POAHY) is recalling 8,571 2024- 2025 Porsche Macan Electric SUVs whose rearview cameras may fail to show a clear image. This defect ups the risk of a crash while backing up.

Recall summary

The rearview camera in the affected SUVs may fail to show an image when reversing due to a software error. In addition, the camera’s housing may not be sealed properly, which may allow “moisture ingress” and blur the image.

Recall risks

A faulty rearview camera limits visibility while backing up, augmenting the risk of a crash and injury and property damage.

Warning signs

The driver may receive a “white warning message” on the camera’s display.

Other Porsche recalls

In October 2024, Porsche recalled Taycan electric cars over the risk of fire. This was the fourth recall for the same issue, as reported.

In March 2024, Porsche 911 sports cars were recalled because their windshields or rear windows may have detached in a crash, also as reported.

The repair

The dealers will update the rearview camera software and replace the rearview and surrounding cameras if needed.

The repairs will be done free of charge.

The owners should receive letters with more information by June 6, 2025.

US government upgrades and expands Honda stall investigation

Washington, D.C. – April 22, 2025 – The U.S. government auto safety regulator has upgraded and expanded its investigation of Honda (NYSE:HMC) cars that may stall and not restart.

The investigation comes on the back of close to 1,300 complaints and could lead to a recall of roughly 2.2 million vehicles, including:

  • 2015 – 2025 Acura TLX
  • 2016 – 2025 Acura MDX
  • 2016 – 2015 Honda Pilot
  • 2018 – 2025 Honda Odyssey
  • 2019 – 2025 Honda Passport
  • 2020 – 2025 Honda Ridgeline

Recall summary

The regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), originally opened an investigation on June 3, 2022, following more than 200 complaints regarding Honda Passport SUVs that would fail to restart.

This would happen after the vehicle came to a complete halt and the start-stop system automatically shut off the engine to enhance fuel efficiency.

In January 2023, Honda issued two service bulletins, instructing dealers how to deal with this problem. But this remedy proved insufficient, with many cars reportedly still stalling even after being repaired.

The investigation has now been upgraded to a so-called engineering analysis. This means that the investigators will conduct a deeper analysis to assess the effectiveness of the repairs done so far. In addition, the scope of the investigation has been widened to add more cars that were included in the service bulletins, as well as some newer models.

Recall risks

A stationary car may get hit by other vehicles, especially if the defect occurs in dense traffic, increasing the risk of an injury.

In fact, this investigation comes on the heels of four crashes and two injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.

Dangerous situations

A driver complained that her 2016 Honda Pilot “has stalled several times on the busiest highway in Hawaii during rush hour traffic”. The person had to put their car in Park and wait at least 30 seconds for it to restart “in the middle of a [busy] highway.”

Another driver expressed that he feared that he was going to be “killed” in the car if it did not stop losing power. Honda apparently advised him to leave the vehicle in “moving traffic” to “film” the problem, further adding to his worries.

What is a service bulletin?

A service bulletin is a step below a recall where the car maker lets dealers know about how to fix a common, recurring problem that does not represent a serious safety issue. Unlike in a recall, dealers are not required to proactively reach out to drivers.

Is your vehicle a part of this recall?

This investigation may lead to a Honda stall recall, potentially affecting more than 2.2 million vehicles. To do a Honda recall check and see if yours is one of them, please use MotorSafety’s free vehicle lookup tool.

Volvo recalls vehicles with defective batteries, fire risk

Mahwah, NJ – April 18, 2025 – Volvo (OTCMKTS:VLVLY) is recalling 7,483 hybrid cars and SUVs that may burst into flames because of a defective high-voltage battery. The defect ups the risk of injury and property damage.

 The following models are affected:

  • 2022 Volvo V90
  • 2020 – 2022 Volvo S60
  • 2020 – 2022 Volvo V60
  • 2020 – 2021 Volvo S90
  • 2020 – 2022 Volvo XC60
  • 2020 – 2022 Volvo XC90

Recall summary

Besides an internal combustion engine, hybrid vehicles have an electric motor powered by a high-voltage battery. In the affected models, due to a “supplier process deviation,” an internal short circuit within the battery may cause it to overheat and catch fire.

According to Volvo, this may only happen when the battery is fully charged and the vehicle is parkede.

Recall risks

If the vehicle catches fire, the occupants could get seriously injured. Furthermore, the flames can spread to surrounding objects and cause property damage.

Safety tips

Volvo advises owners not to charge their vehicles until the repair is performed.

US government takes Honda Ridgeline rearview camera investigation to next level

Washington, D.C. April 16, 2025 – The U.S. government auto safety regulator has upgraded their investigation of Honda (NYSE:HMC) after concerns of repeated rearview camera failure.

The investigation – that may lead to a recall of 129,092 2017-2019 Honda Ridgeline pickup trucks – comes on the heels of a previous recall that was launched to fix the issue back in 2022.

Investigation summary

The cars were recalled in November 2022 after the wiring harness that transmits the rearview camera signal was found to be too fragile and was replaced with an improved version.

The regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), originally opened an investigation on June 26, 2024 after the improved harness was found to be the culprit behind a separate Honda Ridgeline recall performed in May of last year.

Subsequently, the manufacturer and NHTSA received 14 complaints about the cars repaired in 2022 once again experiencing rearview camera failure.

On the back of that information, the investigation got upgraded to the so-called engineering analysis. This upgrade means that NHTSA will dig deeper into the issues and see if the 2022 repairs were sufficient and if another recall is warranted.

Risks

Inoperable rearview cameras limit visibility while backing up, making it more likely for the driver to crash into nearby objects or pedestrians.

Other Honda recalls

In February 2025, Honda recalled SUVs and cars over a software glitch that may cause them to stall while driving.

In December 2024, Honda Pilot and Passport SUVs were recalled because of a fuel leak that may lead to a vehicle fire.

Volkswagen recalls EVs over rollaway risk

Auburn Hills, MI – April 10, 2025 – Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY), which owns the Audi brand, is recalling 60,490 EVs over incorrect gear display that may result in a vehicle rollaway.

The list of recalled models includes:

  • 2021 – 2023 Volkswagen ID.4
  • 2022 – 2023 Audi Q4 E-TRON
  • 2022 – 2023 Audi Q4 Sportback E-TRON

Recall summary

All vehicles with an automatic transmission must clearly indicate a selected gear on the instrument cluster. In the affected cars, this may not happen when the driver shifts into Neutral due to a software error.

This means that if the electronic parking brake is not engaged, the car may roll away, especially if it is on a slope or a hill.

Recall risks

The rollaway ups the risk of an accident or property damage.

Warning signs

The driver might notice an absence of the red parking brake warning on the dashboard.

Other Volkswagen recalls

In September 2024, Volkswagen recalled ID.4 cars whose doors could open on their own.

In July 2024, Golf hatchbacks and Atlas SUVs were recalled over limited visibility caused by malfunctioning rearview cameras.

The repair

Dealers will update the electronic parking brake software free of charge.

The owners should receive letters with more information on April 4, 2025.

Ford recalls Bronco, Maverick cars it failed to repair for stall issues

Dearborn, MI – April 7, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 12,833 pickup trucks and SUVs that may stall. This ups the risk of a crash and injury.

 The following SUVs are affected:

  • 2021 – 2024 Ford Bronco Sport
  • 2022 – 2023 Ford Maverick

These vehicles were originally recalled for the same issue in April of last year but did not receive the required remedy.

Recall summary

The charging of the 12-volt battery – which powers the vehicle’s electrical system and starter motor – is controlled by two computers called the Body Control Module (BCM) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). In the affected SUVs, a software error may prevent the modules from catching when the battery is running low.

Recall risks

The vehicle may stall and fail to restart, upping the risk of a crash, especially if this happens in dense traffic.

Background of the recall

Ford originally recalled these vehicles for the same issue in April of last year on the back of a U.S government auto safety regulator investigation. The remedy was a software update to the BCM and PCM.

The present recall stems from dealers’ failure to perform the said software update to some of the vehicles that were marked as repaired.

The repair

Dealers will update the BCM and PCM software free of charge.

Interestingly enough, this remedy proved to be insufficient in the past on a large subset of vehicles in the past. Earlier this year, Ford recalled close to 60% of vehicles originally involved in the April 2024 recall because they kept stalling even after receiving the software remedy. Dealers replaced the batteries in that case, as reported.

The owners should receive letters with more information between April 24, 2025, and May 1, 2025.

Tesla recalls Cybertrucks over fly-away trims

Austin, TX – April 3, 2025 – Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is recalling 46,096 2024-2025 Tesla Cybertruck pickups over a piece of trim that may fall off while driving. This would create road debris for the other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

Recall summary

The Cybertruck has a cosmetic trim on the side of the vehicle –  known as a cant rail – which frames the front and rear doors. The trim was not attached correctly to the affected vehicles and may separate.

Recall risks

A trim that falls off while driving may land on the road, creating an obstacle for the other motorists, who may crash while trying to avoid it.

Warning signs

A loose trim could create noise while driving. The owners might also notice it is not fitted correctly against the vehicle’s body.

Other Tesla recalls

In September 2024, Model X SUVs were recalled because their roof trims could fall off while driving, as reported.

In January 2025, Tesla recalled several models over an issue with rearview cameras, also as reported.

On a separate note, Tesla is currently being investigated by the U.S. government after one of its self-driving vehicles killed a pedestrian

The repair

Dealers will replace the cant rails free of charge.

The owners should receive letters with more information by May 19, 2025.

Ford issues second recall for cars with defective trailer brakes

Dearborn, MI – April 1, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F), which owns the Lincoln brand, is recalling 10,627 pickup trucks and SUVs whose trailer brakes may fail. This defect could increase the stopping distance, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

 The following models are affected:

  • 2022 Ford Expedition
  • 2022 Ford F-250 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-350 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-450 SD
  • 2022 Ford F-550 SD
  • 2022 Ford Maverick
  • 2022 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2021 – 2022 Ford F-150

These vehicles were originally recalled three years ago but for some reason were not repaired.

Recall summary

Trailer brake operation is controlled by a computer called the Integrated Trailer Relay Module. Due to a software error in the module, the affected vehicles’ trailer brakes may stop working.

Recall risks

With the brakes on the trailer out of action, the vehicle may take longer to stop, upping the risk of a crash and injury.

Background of the recall

These trucks and SUVs were already recalled in April 2022 to have their trailer brake control module software updated. But, as it turns out, some dealers did not actually do the update, despite marking it as done.

Other Ford recalls

In February 2025, Ford Super Duty trucks and Lincoln Corsair SUVs were recalled because their rearview cameras could fail to show an image.

In September 2024, Ford was prompted by a US government investigation to recall several models, including F-150 trucks, over an engine defect that could cause them to stall

The repair

Dealers will update the trailer brake control module software free of charge.

The owners should receive letters with more information between April 14, 2025, and April 18, 2025.
