Honda recalls model year 2017 Honda CR-V 2WDs and AWDs

American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 24,127 model year 2017 Honda CR-V 2WD and AWD vehicles.
The vehicles have a fuel supply pipe that may have been improperly manufactured, possibly resulting in the pipe disconnecting and leaking while the vehicle is being driven.
If the pipe disconnects, the engine will stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the disconnected pipe may leak fuel, which, in the presence of an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire…

2007-2013 Mitsubishi Outlander recalled for windshield wiper woes: 100k vehicles affected

Mitsubishi is recalling just over 100,000 Outlander crossovers in the U.S. to address a problem with their windshield wipers. Documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explain that the wiper motors in Outlanders from the 2007 to 2013 model years may be at risk of corrosion.
The motors in those vehicles were manufactured by DENSO Corporation in Japan. NHTSA explains that when the wipers aren’t in use, water may be able to enter the motor (for example, if the Outlander is parked outside during a rainstorm)…

Ford to repair U.S. police vehicles after carbon monoxide concerns

Ford Motor Co said Friday it will pay to repair police versions of its Ford Explorer SUVs to correct possible carbon monoxide leaks that may be linked to crashes and injuries after U.S. regulators escalated an investigation into 1.33 million vehicles.
Ford said it will cover the costs of specific repairs in every Police Interceptor Explorer SUVs that may be tied to after-market installation of police equipment. The company said the modifications may have left holes in the underbody of the vehicles.

2017 Ram 1500 Recalled Over Potential Fuel Leak

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling some units of the 2017 Ram 1500 over an issue that could cause the vehicle to leak fuel.
The defect: the fuel tanks in the affected vehicles may have a broken fuel tank control valve which might leak fuel if the vehicle were to become inverted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 301, “Fuel System Integrity.”
The hazards: in the event of a rollover crash, leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

GM Recalls 40,683 Vehicles Over Potential Issue With Airbag And Seat Belt Pretensioners

General Motors is recalling several models over an issue that could prevent a vehicle’s airbags or seat belt pretensioners from working properly.

The defect: the vehicles being recalled were previously remedied for recall 16V-651, but may not have received the complete software update necessary to completely remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

The hazards: a failure of the front airbags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger…

Fuel tank flange issue could lead to greater recall

Auburn Hills, Mich.—July 25, 2017—One recall from earlier this year could be the sign of future Volkswagen recalls, according to an article in Car and Driver. The case involves defective flanges, which could crack, possibly because the material could deteriorate.

Volkswagen is just one of several manufacturers with possible complications from this issue, and all reportedly stem from the part itself, a Continental Automotive Systems product. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into the matter.

As the source described, a crack in the flange could also lead to a fuel leak. Major auto companies like Ford and General Motors could have to recall vehicles if they find evidence of the risk. The article quoted a statement from Elizabeth Weigandt, a Ford representative, on the company’s awareness of the issue.

“It’s unclear at this point whether Ford vehicles are affected,” she said. “We are reviewing the matter and will cooperate with NHTSA, as we always do.”

A Part 573 Safety Recall Report submitted to the NHTSA in March said that 20,908 Volkswagen Touareg vehicles were part of that company’s recall, with the model years ranging from 2007 to 2010.  The larger amount of vehicles were produced between 2006 and 2010. This report said that the components could weaken over time due to oxidization and internal pressure. The report said that March was the company’s “date of determination.”

The resolution to this earlier recall involved fitting the affected flanges with a protective cover. The report said that a fuel smell may indicate the issue, and that there were apparent similarities between this recall and another one for Audi vehicles.

A Volkswagen dealership communication said that the resolution could require a full replacement if the flanges are cracked. The fuel leak could present a hazard if fire is present.

2017 Dodge Challenger recalled to fix transmission glitch

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling the 2017 Dodge Challenger to address a problem with the car’s transmission. A software glitch could allow owners to think their vehicle is in park when in fact, it’s not.
This isn’t the first issue that FCA has had with shifters in recent years. An electronic shifter manufactured by ZF confounded many Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep owners, resulting in 41 injuries, a recall of 1.1 million vehicles, and the death of a budding Hollywood actor. The automaker was on the receiving end of at least two lawsuits related to the faulty component…

Mazda Recalls Mazda6, CX-7 and CX-9 to Fix Takata Airbags

Mazda is recalling more than 205,000 vehicles to replace Takata frontal passenger-side airbag inflators, a recall that is meant as a permanent fix to a May 2016 recall.
Included in the Takata recall are 2009-2011 Mazda Mazda6, 2007-2011 Mazda CX-7 and Mazda CX-9 vehicles that will have their passenger airbag modules replaced. The recall is part of the ongoing saga of Takata airbags at risk of exploding due to the explosive chemical, ammonium nitrate.
The chemical should create a small explosive force to deploy the airbags in a crash, but it doesn’t always work out that way. Because of time, heat and humidity, the chemical can become unstable and explode, sending metal fragments into vehicle occupants…
