Toyota Recalls Vehicles That Could Overload [Video]

Torrance, CA — June 24, 2016 — A recall first initiated in April concerns almost ninety-five Toyota light vehicles. According to an official report from the NHTSA, affected vehicles could carry the wrong load capacity information, a problem with serious potential consequences.

Vehicles with inaccurate load labels risk misleading consumers as to how much they can carry. Too much weight onboard will strain a vehicle’s capacity and make it more likely to crash. This issue also represents a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 S10.

The report said that the problem came from a miscommunication. Owners will be able to perform the remedy themselves by placing a correct, vehicle-specific label.

Many Nissan Vehicles Affected in Sensor-based Recall [Video]

Smyrna, TN — June 7, 2016 — Just one flawed part could compromise multiple systems in Nissan vehicles. More than 3 million units are part of the company’s new recall.

This action comes from faulty Occupant Classification Systems, or OCS. A glitch means that this system could keep an air bag from deploying when it needs to. The recall includes many different vehicles, including Altima, Maxima and Pathfinder cars. Model years range from 2012 to 2017.

Although all of the remedies will be free for the customer, the fixes vary depending on the vehicle. For some vehicles, dealers will only have to reprogram the air bag and OCS electronic control unit. In other cases, they will have to replace the electronic control unit entirely.

Some 2016 Hyundai Tucson trailers may have turn signal problems [Video]

Fountain Valley, CA — April 29, 2016 — Some SUV trailer turn signal lights may be in trouble, according to a recent Hyundai recall. Last month, the manufacturer targeted thousands of Tucson vehicles produced within the last two years for issues that could affect drivers with trailers.

The problem comes from the trailer hitch wiring harnesses. These products, from Mobis Part America, may interfere with the turn signals used in trailers. Drivers could find that these signals either stay on for too long or turn off entirely. Either way, the problem could represent a safety violation.

Owners and dealers were both notified on March 6. Dealers were instructed to fix this difficulty by updating affected harnesses.

FCA Recalls Vehicles with Bad Brake Calipers [Video]

Detroit, MI — April 27, 2016 — Some Fiat Chrysler vehicles may have faulty brake calipers, according to a new recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began this month with reports on this latest action.

The recall includes more than 14,700 SUVs from the 2015 and 2016 model years. The left front caliper in these vehicles can fracture, the source said, making it harder for drivers to stop quickly. This can also lead to loss of brake fluid.

The manufacturer did not include a recall schedule in the original March 23 report. However, it did state that the remedy will replace calipers that may be made of weak material. The recall affects both Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles.

Nissan Recalls Vehicles for Fuel Pump Plating [Video]

Franklin, TN — March 31, 2016 — Last December, Nissan recalled more than 30,000 Nissan Rogues for transmission issues that could see the vehicle shift gears unexpectedly. A new recall for the same model concerns a totally different issue involving faulty fuel pump materials.

A safety recall report notes that some of the cars included in this recall may lose nickel fuel pump plating, putting engine functionality at risk. The vehicles involved were produced between February and June of 2014, and could suffer serious fuel pump problems if plating particles get into the wrong area.

The company decided a recall would be necessary on March 3, after processing warranty data. To fix this problem, the manufacturer will include a new component that uses a different kind of coating for the pump.

No Seat Belt Warning for Some Hyundai Santa Fe Vehicles [Video]

Fountain Valley, CA — March 29, 2016 — In most Hyundai Santa Fe vehicles, passengers get a warning chime when their seat belts aren’t buckled. However, the manufacturer has issued a new recall for models in which a faulty alarm could leave passengers at risk. This action affects approximately 34,200 vehicles produced this year.

According to an official report, vehicles with damaged wiring could fail to alert occupants to undone seat belt buckles. On the other hand, the same defect could leave the alarm on after a seat belt is buckled. Each of these could represent a serious safety violation.

The defect was first discovered through an audit this February. Dealers will replace seat belt buckle harnesses if they detect damage.

Some Nissan Vehicle Brakes Could be Harder to Use in cold Weather [Video]

Franklin, TN — March 15, 2016 — Though spring is approaching, cold weather-sensitive vehicle issues may still affect Nissan owners and dealers alike.

A Safety Recall Report noted that the manufacturer recalled 47,000 Nissan LEAF hybrid cars last month in the United States. If the brake relays freeze, these vehicles could be more difficult to stop in cold temperatures, even if the braking system itself stays functional.

In a special bulletin, Nissan stated that affected owners have already been notified, and that dealers can fix this issue by updating vehicle software.

Investigators Looking into Ford F-150 Brake Problems [Video]

Dearborn, MI — March 14, 2016 — Hundreds of thousands of Ford F-150 trucks are currently under investigation for brake system issues. According to the Associated Press, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received more than 30 complaints about this issue, most of which have come with the last 12 months. None of the complaints have involved any injuries so far.

The effort does not include an official recall yet, but does show the manufacturer reacting seriously to customer problems. Currently, the investigation includes approximately 420,000 units with model years ranging from between 2013 and 2014. Affected vehicles have leaked brake fluid, leading to difficulties using the brakes at all.

Since this just an investigation, there is no suggested remedy action from the source if a recall is required.

Some Chrysler Windshields Could Dislodge in Crash [Video]

Detroit, MI — March 07, 2016 — Starting next month, a Chrysler recall will affect hundreds of vehicles manufactured with expired urethane primer. This chemical may make it more likely for the windshields in these vehicles to dislodge.

This action comes from tests that revealed the possible effects of using primer past its expiration date. Older coats of primer were found to ineffectively bond on the windshield. There have currently been no reports of injuries from this problem, though the dislocated windshields could potentially hurt a vehicle’s occupants.

The recall extends to two models: the Town and Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan. Manufacture dates range from August 2014 to December 2015. Dealers will remedy the issue by replacing the windshields as needed

Chrysler Recall Should Make Changing Tires Safer [Video]

Detroit, MI — February 24, 2016 — A new recall focuses on more than 441,000 Dodge Chargers. According to official recall documents, this action concerns vehicles produced between August 2010 and January 2016.

Fiat Chrysler is recalling these vehicles because they may accidentally fall off their jacks and possibly hurt owners trying to change a tire. The body-side sill assembly could possibly fail if owners don’t use wheel chocks. Because of this, the manufacturer will supply chocks to owners as part of the remedy.

Once they are installed, these will reduce the chance of injury during a tire change. The company released an official statement on this recall earlier this month. There are three minor injuries connected to this issue.
