Recall summary

As a result of a software error, the rearview camera in the affected vehicles may fail to show an image while backing or stay on once the transmission is shifted out of Reverse. In addition, the infotainment system may go blank or show messages in an incorrect language.

Recall risks

While a missing rearview camera image reduces visibility when reversing, one that stays on while driving may prevent the driver from using other car functions, such as navigation. Both situations up the risk of a crash and injury.

Ford recalls Bronco SUVs over defective child safety locks

Dearborn, MI – July 18, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 27,768 2025 Ford Bronco SUVs whose rear doors may be inadvertently opened from the inside. The defect ups the chances of injury to unrestrained rear seat occupants.

Recall summary

The child safety lock is a mechanism in the rear door latch that prevents the rear doors from being opened by pulling the interior door handle.

The left rear door of the affected  vehicles can be opened even with the child safety lock on due to “out of specification“ parts.

Recall risks

Unrestrained occupants may fall out of the vehicle if the rear doors are opened while the car is moving. This can have serious or even fatal consequences.

Other Ford recalls

In June 2025, Ford recalled close to half a million Explorer SUVs over a detaching door trim that created a road hazard.

In May 2025, Ford recalled more than a quarter of a million SUVs whose brake lines were leaking, increasing stopping distance

The repair

Ford recalls Mustang Mach-E SUVs over entrapment risk

Dearborn, MI – July 16, 2025 – Ford (NYSE:F) is recalling 197,432 2021-2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs whose doors may lock on their own and trap occupants inside the vehicle. This defect ups the chances of a serious injury, especially in hot weather.

Recall summary

The door latches of the affected SUVs may remain locked after the vehicle is turned off because of low battery.

The occupants will be able to open the door using the inside handles but if they shut the door after exiting the car, it will lock again. This creates a risk that a small child seated in the back who does not know how to operate the handles, will not be able to open the door on his own.

Recall risks

A trapped occupant may suffer serious injuries, especially when the outside temperatures are high.

Warning signs

If the battery voltage drops too low, it may trigger a “system off to save power” warning on the vehicle’s display or even cause it to go blank.

Additionally, passengers may notice that the interior door handles need to be pulled further to open the doors.

Other Ford recalls

In June 2025, Ford recalled over 6,700 cars over a fire risk caused by a defective engine block heater.

In May 2025, more than a quarter of a million Ford and Lincoln SUVs were recalled over a brake fluid leak.

  • 2023 – 2025 Volvo S60 PHEV
  • 2024 – 2025 Volvo V60 PHEV

Recall summary

These cars have a so called “engine braking” mode that allows them to generate energy when the driver takes his foot off the brake and lets the vehicle coast, such as when going downhill.

As a result of a software error, the brakes in the affected cars may not engage when the person presses the brake pedal again after going downhill.

The mode is called the B-mode in PHEV cars and the one pedal drive-mode in EVs.

Recall risks

The vehicle whose brakes fail is more likely to crash into objects or pedestrians ahead, upping the risk of an injury.

Safety tips

The carmaker advises owners not to use the B- or the one pedal drive-mode until the repair is performed.

Rivian recalls electric trucks and SUVs over inoperable turn signals

Plymouth, MI – July 8, 2025 – Rivian (NASD:RIVN) is recalling 27,882 electric pickup trucks and SUVs whose turn signals may fail to engage. This defect makes the vehicle less visible to other drivers, upping the risk of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2025 Rivian R1S
  • 2025 Rivian R1T

Recall summary

The front turn signals of the affected vehicles may fail to illuminate when the driver engages them. This happens because of an internal flaw within the turn signal’s assembly.

The car maker is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by this defect.

Recall risks

With rear turn signal lights not working, other motorists may not be aware of the driver’s intention to make a turn. This can lead to a crash, increasing the risk of an injury.

Warning signs

A malfunctioning turn signal will trigger a warning message on the driver’s display. In addition, the speed of the turn signal’s blinking indicator will double.

Other Rivian recalls

The last major Rivian recall was back in April 2023, when R1S SUVs were recalled because their reverse lights failed to illuminate when backing up.

In March 2023, Rivian recalled pickup trucks and SUVs whose front airbags did not deploy in a crash due to a defective seat belt mechanism.

Mitsubishi issues second recall for Outlander cars with faulty rearview cameras

Franklin, TN – July 2, 2025 – Mitsubishi (OTCMKTS:MSBHF) is recalling 198,940 SUVs over malfunctioning rearview cameras. This defect reduces visibility while reversing, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2022 – 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander
  • 2023 – 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV

This is an expansion and replacement of a similar recall from May 2023. Vehicles that were previously repaired will need a new remedy.

Recall summary

In the affected SUVs, the camera may freeze or show a blank image due to a software error.

Recall risks

An inoperable rearview camera reduces the driver’s field of view while reversing, upping the chances of a crash and injury.

Background of the recall

These vehicles were previously recalled in May 2023. During that recall, the camera’s software was updated. However, starting in June of that year, the manufacturer received over 350 warranty claims alleging infotainment system or rearview camera malfunction and decided to carry out the current recall.

No injuries or deaths have been reported but it is not clear if any accidents have occurred before the present announcement was made.

Other Mitsubishi recalls

Mitsubishi has had no major recalls in the past few years.

The repair

The dealers will upgrade the camera’s software free of charge.

The owners should receive notifications by June 16, 2025.

Stellantis recalls Dodge Chargers that could strike pedestrians

Auburn Hills, MI – June 27, 2025 – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), which owns the Dodge brand, is recalling 8,390 2024-2025 Dodge Charger electric cars that may fail to emit sound alerts to warn pedestrians and other vehicles. The defect increases the risk of a crash and injury.

Recall summary

The affected electric cars are equipped with exterior amplifiers that generate a sound to warn nearby pedestrians and vehicles of their otherwise silent approach.  Due to a software error, this safety feature may fail to engage when needed.

Recall risks

If the electric vehicle does not emit a warning sound, the surrounding pedestrians and motorists may not notice it, which ups the chances of a crash.

Other Dodge recalls

In May 2025, Dodge Hornet SUVs were recalled because their rearview cameras could fail to show an image while backing up.

In December 2024, Stellantis recalled more than 300,000 RAM pickups due to inoperable safety features.

GM recalls Cadillac SUVs over blank instrument clusters

Warren, MI – June 19, 2025 – General Motors (NYSE:GM), which owns the Cadillac brand, is recalling 41,376 2023-2024 Cadillac Lyriq electric SUVs whose video displays may go blank.

This would leave the driver without vital information and up the risk of a crash.

Recall summary

The listed SUVs have a single video display that shows all driving and vehicle-related information, including a speedometer and warning lights, as well as an image from the rearview camera while reversing.

In the affected vehicles, the display may go blank due to a software error, depriving the driver of all this data.

Recall risks

If the speedometer is not working, the driver is more likely to drive faster than allowed. A missing rearview camera image reduces visibility while backing up.

Both situations increase the risk of a crash and injury.

Other Cadillac recalls

In May 2025, GM recalled nearly 600,000 vehicles, including Cadillac Escalade SUVs, whose engines could have stalled because of a catastrophic failure.

In July 2024, Cadillac XT5 and XT6 SUVs were recalled over blank instrument clusters, also caused by a software error.

The repair

GM will launch an over-the-air (OTA) software update for cars capable of receiving them. Drivers who do not have that capability enabled will need to visit their dealers to have the update performed.  In either case, there will be no cost for the service.

The owners should receive their notifications by July 14, 2025.

Washington D.C. – June 17, 2025 – Mazda (OTCMKTS:MZDAY) is recalling 171,412 vehicles whose airbags may not deploy in a crash. This reduces occupant protection, upping the risk of injury.

The following models are affected:

  • 2024 – 2025 Mazda CX-30
  • 2024 – 2025 Mazda 3

Recall summary

The airbags in the affected vehicles are controlled by a Sophisticated Airbag Sensor (SAS) unit, which may malfunction “due to low battery.” This would only happen if the driver were to leave the ignition on with the engine turned off for two or more hours.

Recall risks

Without airbags to protect them, the passengers are more likely to sustain injuries in a crash.

Warning signs

A fault within the SAS unit will trigger an airbag warning light and a corresponding message on the dashboard.

In November 2024, Mazda recalled SUVs whose engines could stall due to a software glitch.

In June 2024, Mazda CX-70 SUVs were recalled over sudden braking caused by the unexpected activation of the vehicle’s automated braking system.

Due to faulty design and installation, the heater may become too hot and cause an engine fire.

Recall risks

A vehicle fire increases the risk of a crash and property damage.

Warning signs

A malfunctioning engine block heater can cause a coolant leak that creates a puddle under the vehicle. The driver may also notice poor heater performance as a result of a low coolant level. In some cases, the defect may also trigger a check engine light on the dashboard.
