Mercedes-Benz issues stop-drive notice, recall for cars with brake failure

Jacksonville, FL – May 30, 2024 – Mercedes-Benz (OTCMKTS:MBGYY) is recalling 15,604 SUVs whose brakes may fail, upping the risk of a crash and injury. Owners are being asked not to drive the cars until they are repaired.

Some of the affected vehicles include:     

  • 2006 – 2007 Mercedes-Benz R500
  • 2009 – 2012 Mercedes-Benz R350BTC
  • 2006 – 2012 Mercedes-Benz R350
  • 2007 – 2008 Mercedes-Benz R320CDI
  • 2008 – 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML550
  • 2006 – 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML500
  • 2010 – 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML450H
  • 2009 – 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML350BTC
  • 2006 – 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML350
  • 2007 – 2011 Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-AMG ML63

Recall summary

The brake booster multiplies the force created when the driver presses the brake pedal. In the affected vehicles, corrosion may cause the booster to leak, reducing its ability to assist the driver’s braking efforts.

Recall risks

The driver has to press the pedal much harder, which may elongate the stopping distance and lead to a crash. The defect can also cause the brakes to fail altogether.

Warning signs

A leaking booster may cause a “hissing” sound when the brakes are applied.

Background of the recall

The affected vehicles were included in a previous recall in 2022 for the same issue. For some reason, however, owners never received the letters instructing them to take the cars in for repair. The manufacturer became aware of the issue in April 2024 and issued the present recall to address the oversight.

No injuries or crashes have been reported.

Other Mercedes-Benz recalls

In February of this year, there was a Mercedes AMG recall due to the risk of these hybrids catching fire due to a faulty electrical system, as reported.

In late January, Mercedes issued a second recall for stalling Metris vans and passenger cars, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers will replace the brake booster free of charge. Letters to the owners should go out on May 17, 2024.

Jacksonville, FL  – June 18, 2023 – Mercedes-Benz (OTCMKTS:MBGYY) is recalling 8,281 cars because they may lose power, increasing the risk of a crash.

The following luxury hybrid sedans and SUVs are affected:

  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG EQE
  • 2022 – 2023  Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS
  • 2022 – 2023  Mercedes-Benz EQS 450
  • 2022 – 2023  Mercedes-Benz EQS 580

Recall summary  

Due to a software error, the vehicles’ drivetrain may deactivate. This may result in the car losing power unexpectedly.

Other Mercedes-Benz recalls

Some of the model-years involved in this recall were recalled earlier this month due to another software error which may cause them to lose stability and result in the loss of anti-lock brakes, as reported.

In April 2023, the manufacturer issued a third recall over a water leak which may cause a fire, also as reported.

The repair

Dealers will fix the issue by updating the software on the affected vehicles free of charge.

Owners should receive correspondence with more information by August 4, 2023.

Mercedes-Benz recalls sedans over loss of stability and ABS

Jacksonville, FL – June 4, 2023 – Mercedes-Benz (OTCMKTS:MBGYY), which owns the Maybach brand, is recalling 7,558 sedans whose stability and handling may be affected by a software error. This increases the risk of a crash and injury. 

Affected models include the following: 

  • 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450
  • 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580
  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz S580E
  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S580
  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S680

Recall summary  

All listed vehicles are equipped with a safety feature called Electronic Stability Control (ESP). Its job is to prevent the wheels from locking up or losing traction during harsh cornering, as reported.

In the affected vehicles, the software error might result in the ESP shutting down, affecting a variety of different functions, including anti-lock brakes (ABS), anti-skid regulation and the vehicle’s speedometer.

Recall risks

With the ESP out of order, the vehicle will be less stable and harder to handle. In addition, the speedometer will not work, showing zero miles-per-hour (mph) regardless of the actual speed. All these issues up the risk of an accident.

Warning signs 

Should the ESP malfunction occur, multiple warning lights and messages will pop up on the vehicle’s dashboard. 

Other Mercedes-Benz recalls

Some of these vehicles may have been affected by a recall caused by inoperable rearview cameras, which took place in July 2022. 

In January 2023, Mercedes-Benz recalled a large batch of cars over the risk of stalling. 

In April 2023, the manufacturer conducted a third round of recalls for cars that may catch fire due to water intrusion, as reported.

The repair

Dealers will fix the issue by updating the ESP software free of charge.

Owners should receive letters with more information by July 18, 2023.

Mercedes-Benz issues third recall for water leak that can lead to fire, limp-home mode

Jacksonville, FL – April 8, 2023 – Mercedes-Benz (OTCMKTS:MBGYY), which also owns the Maybach brand, is recalling 6,140 vehicles over a water leak that presents a host of dangers to occupants, including the risk of fire and reduced engine performance.

This recall serves as an expansion of two previous recalls for the same issue conducted in 2019 and 2021.

The latest installment covers the following models: 

  • 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE53
  • 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE63
  • 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLS63
  • 2020–2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE350
  • 2020–2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE450
  • 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE580
  • 2020–2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS450
  • 2020–2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS580
  • 2021 Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS600


Recall summary

Water forms as a typical byproduct of a car’s air conditioning system and is diverted away from the car down to the ground through a drain hose. In the affected vehicles, the drain hose may be incorrectly installed, causing water to leak inside the cabin through the front passenger footwell.

The component involved in this recall is the A/C drain hose with part number A1678323600.  

Recall risks

Water entering the passenger compartment presents many risks to both the vehicle and the occupants. Rust could form from within the vehicle and the water can also potentially short out the electrical system. Apart from presenting an increased risk of fire, this can also cause the car’s electronic features to malfunction, which could affect the ability to unlock doors and call emergency services.

The leak can also accidentally trigger the engine’s limp-home feature while driving, upping the probability of a crash.       

Warning signs

Users may notice that the front footwell carpets have become wet under normal use, as well as misting on the windows.

Background of the recall

In August 2021, Mercedes-Benz conducted an investigation into reports that certain GLE and GLS vehicles that were not included in previous recalls were experiencing water leaks. By February 2023, the automaker traced the problem to drain hoses incorrectly installed during the assembly process. This led to the present recall. There has been no reported crashes or injuries leading up the the recall announcement.

Other Mercedes-Benz recalls

In October 2022, Mercedes-Benz recalled 59,574 vehicles due to faulty seat back locks on the third row seats that could potentially increase the risk of injury in a crash.    

In January 2023, some 123,696 Mercedes-Benz vehicles spanning multiple models were recalled following reports of detaching sunroofs, as reported.

The repair

Dealers will reinstall the hoses correctly free of charge.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by May 16, 2023.
