Auburn Hills, MI – June 12, 2024 – Volkswagen (OTCMKTS:VWAGY) is recalling 79,953 2021-2023 Volkswagen ID.4 electric cars whose instrument clusters and central displays may not boot. The defect augment the risk of a crash and injury.
Recall summary
Due to a software error, the car’s instrument cluster and central display may not turn on or “reset” while driving. This would leave the driver without critical information, such as vehicle speed and the image from the rearview camera.
Recall risks
Insufficient information about vehicle speed and the unavailability of the backup camera up the risk of a crash and injury.
Other Volkswagen recalls
Some of these Volkswagen ID.4 cars may have been affected by a May 2023 recall caused by doors opening on their own while driving.
More recently, in December 2023, the same cars were recalled over flammable sunshades.
The repair
Dealers will update the vehicle software free of charge.
The owners should receive notifications on July 12, 2024.
